Representing the non-epeen swingin', old computer crowd, I'm excited about running GW2 on a 4-year old Core2 Duo E8400, 2 HD4870s (I think?), and 4GB of RAM. Most things run well still. It seems like though computer tech is still advancing, the impact it's having on my gaming is less and less, and I can get more life out of old hardware than I once could.

Are you planning on building it yourself? Or buying a setup?

    Building.
I've been pulling pc's apart / putting them together since hard drives connected to the motherboard with a riser card

I built a PC way back when Warhammer came out, its not anywhere near top of the line right now but I am confident I'll easily be running GW2 on high.

    Intel Quad 2.4GHz OC'd to 2.8
    8GB DDR2 Ram
ATI Radeon HD 4850 with 1GB

I also have a laptop with
    Intel i7 2.4
    6GB DDR3
I can OC the cpu but the onboard graphics card is shit for gaming.

    Still have a Core2Duo E6750, 4GiB RAM, GeForce 8800GTS 512MiB. Depending on how GW2 and D3 perform I may buy a new computer.

My laptop, it's close to 3 years old now but it manages to play WoW on high settings, even in 25-men, unless things started to get really flashy with spell effects.

    Acer Aspire 7730G-644G100M
    Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 (2.0 GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)
    1TB hard drive
    4GB RAM
    nVidia GeForce 9600M GT 1GB

Not sure how high I'll be to go in GW2, but I think medium settings should work.

After seeing some setups, I wont share mine cos you'll probably laugh at it

  10. #30
    Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz
    2 GB
    Radeon HD 4670

Of course, there is a possibility that I get a new computer before the game is released. But I can play SWTOR with this system just fine, so GW2 should be smooth.

Thats the way to go always imo. Back when I built my PC I spent just under 1k when a similar set up in the store was in the range of $1800 O.O $800 just for a brand name and snapping some parts together. If you can build a lego set you can build a computer, its not as hard as people think.

  12. #32
    I agree ^
But not everyone is a computer guy to actually do so. Building is cheaper most of the time, but for people who don't know how to build a computer (or know someone who can build it for them) are most likely to just buy one.

Blimey, so many of you guys are running PSU with WAY more output than you need :P Seein' folks with 800w PSU who's system most likely draws around 500 at peak. But hey, some say it is 'good' to have breathing room for upgrades.

Case: Antec 300. Awesome budget case with plenty of space and still made to good enough standards to compete with top range cases.

    i5 2500k @3300mhz (+arctic cooling freezer 13) mounted in Asus P8P67 M-pro mobo.
    MSI GTX 580 (1.5gb)
    8gb corsair DDR3 1333mhz
    120gb corsair Sata 3 SSD
    64gb PQI SSD
    360gb E-sata HDD (4200 rpm? forgot)
    Corsair TX750M power supply

Plus some other cool stuff like a fan speed controller

Monster processor. Games alone are very unlikely to use more than 4 threads. 3930 is great if you do a lot of heavy multimedia creation-type stuff but for gaming the difference you'd notice over an i5 2500k is utterly marginal at best, and the savings could translate to an SSD or extra video card.

    Hi, I'm new here.

    My current set-up:

    ASUS M4A77TD Mobo
AMD Rana Athlon II X3 460 (at 3.8GHz)
    8GB of PNY XLR8 Ram (at 1600)
    Gigabyte GTS 450 (at 930/1860)
WD Black 750GB HDD (at 7.2k RPM)
    Cooler Master Hyper 212+ (Push/Pull)

I'm actually building a new computer for D3/GW2. So far, I have:

    MSI 870S-G46 Mobo
    16GB G Skill Ripjaws X (at 1600)
    Diamond ATI 4890 CF
WD Velociraptor 64GB HDD (at 10k RPM)
    Corsair H50

I know it's only DX 10.1 compatible and I'm ok with that. I haven't been that impressed with DX 11 and I got both 4890's for $140 shipped.

I'm torn on the CPU, however. It's got to be AM3. I can't decide if I'll actually use an X6 or if an X4 will be enough. Only settling on Phenom II Black's at this point.

    Congrats on your little girl!
That's an really good computer you got there! :O Can't be cheap huh?

    Cheers m8y Much excitement

She is a bit pricey I'm not building, coz well...I'm a bit of a noob. Also, I've been told by good mates who do build pcs that u really need to know how to maintain em, as over time they develop a few glitchese here n there. Both are in IT so...
Thankfully we've negotiated a bit down. And actually alienware PCs here (China) are the cheapest we've found anywhere. US, UK, Hong Kong, Oz, Singapore...everywhere.
All together she's about £2.5k She's got quite a few nice extras thrown in there too

edit: I know GW2 won't need a PC this good, no way near because of the engine. But why the hell not get a nice PC

Grats! And what a monster! I mean the computer, not the girl!
And yeh, it's best to, when you buy a new computer, to immideatly buy one that will last a while. By the looks of that thing, that shouldn't be a problem.
