Dragon Soul and Firelands Statistics, Blue Posts, Poll

Diablo 3 - Diablo 3 on Consoles, Electrocute Runed, New Game System Info Soon, Diablo 3 Comic

    Statistics: Dragon Soul and Firelands
Patch 4.2 brought us Firelands over six months ago, and in that time roughly 12% of our sample of level 85 characters completed Normal difficulty Firelands. Patch 4.3 was released just one and a half months ago, during the holiday, and already 30% of the sample has killed Deathwing in any difficulty while only 4% has killed Deathwing on Normal or Heroic.

Keep in mind this sample includes many alt characters and many players have multiple characters, so there is no way to know for sure if more people are raiding. However, we do know that more characters are raiding now than raided during Firelands.

This time around, the overall sample is around 6 million characters and the active character sample is around 4.4 million. If you are interested in these type of statistics or want to see other information, let us know in the comments!

First we take a look at the overall population, including every level 85 character that has been active since Patch 4.3 went live. Only 4% of the population managed to do Normal difficulty Dragon Soul so far, and 34% completed it on LFR or higher difficulty.

Next we look at how quickly people earned the Normal difficulty Deathwing achievement. The holiday caused a slight slowdown in the past few weeks, but people started earning it constantly on the first week.

Next we look at how quickly people earned the Raid Finder or greater difficulty Deathwing achievement. You can see the weekly growth starts out high and is now rapidly decreasing, as everyone and their alts are have easily completed the raid.

Next we look at how quickly people earned the Normal difficulty Firelands completion achievement. You can see where the Hotfix took effect and greatly increased the amount of kills, which are now leveling off as players don't have a reason to go back.

Now we narrow our sample to just characters who have killed Deathwing on Raid Finder or greater difficulty. For this sample, 13% of characters have done it on Normal or Heroic difficulty, and 87% of characters did it on Raid Finder difficulty.

Yes. I can confirm that we are fixing that issue in 4.3.2.

You will see the note on it in the next update to the 4.3.2 PTR patch notes. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

WoW No Longer Compatible with Windows 2000
In preparation for the upcoming release of Mists of Pandaria, updates to World of Warcraft will no longer support Microsoft Windows 2000. Microsoft ceased support for this version of their operating system in 2010. Players still using Windows 2000 are encouraged to upgrade prior to the release of Mists of Pandaria. WHAT?! No more support for Windows 2000?! This is blasphemy!

The poll left out "I quit, but still inexplicably make movies about it."

Also, my Windows 2000 computer currently runs wow better than my vista one.

Well, it appears LFR is doing what it was made for.

  7. #7
Ye where is the "I quit" on the poll

From this point. 18.% is rather o_o. Play the game to have fun >_>, not to just pass your time doing nothing.

Oh I can see people using those charts to claim LFR killed raiding. But I'm not surprised LFR is so widely finished VS normal mode. Everyone has the ability to run LFR, even the most immature keyboard turner, so naturally with a larger pool and easier difficulty you'll see more people doing it.

I kind of wish we'd seen a chart comparing the number of people who cleared normal firelands 2 months in VS the number who cleared normal Dragon Soul.

Also, seems the Firelands nerf worked just fine, check out the spike in clears.

Why would "I quit" be on a "why do you keep playing" poll? That makes no sense.

I love how Normal Firelands achievements just pretty much skyrocketed after Sept 13th.

well, hopefully they'll only lose like 10 subs from losing windows 2k support lol. i can buy a new copy of windows 7 at my local flea market for 35 bucks, albeit the vendors there are always a bit shady about their buisness

I'll revisit Dragon Soul stats again closer to Mists of Pandaria, just like I revisited Firelands now.

I'd like to know how many of those people that have the LFR achievement ALSO have the Normal one.Because I have both.

Definitely the lack of something better that keeps me coming back. Tried Age of Conan, then Warhammer then Rift, and lately SWTOR, but all those games failed to even match the basic fun of WoW's combat system. Responsive controls and lightning fast player feedback through a good UI, how hard is that really! Too hard for Bioware and the rest it seems.

LFR only appears to be doing what it is made for imo.I don't think it's making more people raid, it's just allowing more people to raid more than what they did previously.

It should've happened when Cataclysm launched, IMO.

Also, there's going to be a point when they'll no longer support Windows XP -- Microsoft is going to drop support for it in 2014.

Putting "The community/friends/guild" all in one option makes me sad.

Hey, I didn't see an option in the poll for the Roleplay aspect! /shakes fist and presses imaginary button

Look forward to it. Hopefully it'll put to bed any complaints about LFR killing guilds.

Also, it seems we now know what language pack will be coming out after Italian. Polish.

The day WoW drops Windows 7 support is the day I either buy a Mac or Blizz has finally released a Linux client.
