    I bet you call a router a raowter instead of a rooter though.

    And rowt would be said the rote.

    Route = root
    Rout (as in "a disorganised retreat") = rowt

    And router = rowter.

    To me anyway.

    (<-- australian btw)

    To be perfectly honest, I say both and it depends on who I am around lol. Root when I respect the people I am with or giving a speech, Rowt with a more comfortable atmosphere.

    I say it as "root".

    Root. Though I find myself increasingly often pronouncing router as rowter.

    I do both, depending on who I am talking to.

    To the few people that say Americans pronounce it rowt, I have to disagree. I was born & raised here, so was everybody I know sans like 4 people. We all pronounce it root. Every single one of us. Though, we all pronounce router as rowter. It's kinda funny.

    When it's the word alone, normally as "rout". But when it's, say, Route 66, I say root. Dunno why.

  16. #76
    I say it 'rowt', but it seems that both are perfectly acceptable.

  17. #77
    "we are en-root to-"
    "the best rowt is-"

    On topic: I grew up pronouncing it "rowt", but being surrounded by folks calling it "root" changed my habits.

    Both of them are used and are very popular, but if any of you call something a "rooter" or say you're "rerooting" to me in person, I am going to laugh at you.
