Yes. You'll probably want to play on an oceanic server.

Yes, there are many, many Aussie's already playing, most of which are on the Harbinger server as there are no oceanic servers yet.

I'd suggest you stop listening to those people :P The game is fine, haven't had any problems, lag is fine for being in Australia and the server in America, only about 180-210ms compared to other game's/MMO's 450-600ms, only thing that's a pain is maintenance times, they're usually at 7pm which is peak time.
