Gambling in WoW - I just lost myself 58k gold.

As pity as it sounds, it's true.

Some random level 1 alt was doing something he called "Casino".

    The rules are simple:
Roll 60 or higher and you get 2x of your bet back.
Roll 98 or higher and you get 4x of your bet back.

At first I bet 1k gold and lost.
    Then 2k gold and lost.
    Then 6k gold and lost.
    Then 10k gold and lost.
    Then 14k gold and lost.
Then 25k and won with a roll of 98.
    "Casino has gone offline".

    I'm now 58k gold low.

I didn't know that it was against the ToS of both creating and using gambling in-game, but I did know that scamming people is against the ToS.

What will happen now? I've made a ticket to a GM and I'm curious to know if I'll ever see my gold again and if that prick is getting banned.

Anybody here with similiar experience who could tell me what came out of it? And please... don't try to start a flamewar - I know what I did was stupid in the first place.

doubt you are going to get the gold back :/.

Casino's and gambling in-game aren't against the ToS, but advertising them in public channels is. That being said, I wouldn't expect Blizzard to work very hard to get your gold back.

You probably wont get your gold back, and btw, that is the dumbest thing you can ever do, something like that is so obvious.

But still, write a ticket, that is scamming, he will get a permanent ban

You basically gave away 58k...you wont get it back.

**re-read the last line properly... yes i guess thats scamming, he may get a ban, but you could as well as it is against the TOS (you cant play the "i didnt know card"because you ticked "Yup ive read it all, i understand and i agree"

    He scammed you.

You'll either get your gold back (the 25k you bet) or you'll get your gold back AND the winnings if he has 100k across his characters.

Casinos were removed from being illegal because of the people just scamming others out of gold.

If he had 100k, he'll get suspended for sure.

You honestly thought that the player would give you your gold when you won? Think of this as a learning experience, when a shady guy in a ally tries to sell you a Rolex from his jacket, chances are they are fake.

Doubt you're going to see your gold back, but it's worth a try ticketing GM's. Was kinda stupid practically handing over 58k, to a level 1 character of all.

OK edited i just re-read and it looks like he scammed you out of 25k gold right?

A gm maybe able to help with that if the terms of the agreement were made clear in chat or whatever.

that's why i never give gold to any player or bot in game.

    Also, you were lucky.

Expected outcome from betting 1 unit = 0.38*2 + 0.02*4 units = 0.84 units. He was looking at a 15% profit margin on every game, and you shouldn't have played in the first place.

It depends. On the EU servers running OR participating in a casino is not allowed, because of online European gambling laws. So if he is on the EU servers, he will never get the gold back regardless of what happens.

    Are you sure about this?

What if he doesn't have 100k gold (only like 70k)? And what if he used the gold already?

Well it is a scam so he should get the gold back. Thats how it works for any normal scams atleast.

Honestly, I can't believe you thought you would win gold. Anyway, you can report him certainly but I'm not sure if he'll get any serious perma ban or if you'll ever get your gold back.

Why be stupid enough to participate in a casino service in-game anyway? It's litterally the most stupid thing you can do in a city.

Playing in a Casino would be considered an unsupported transaction. The "owner" of the Casino could be investigated for Scamming, and if evidence upholds that they could receive an account action and removal of ill-gotten gold or items. However, restoration of any gold to the "players" would be extremely unlikely.

By engaging in an unsupported transaction, one accepts all risk entailed by putting an amount of gold in a Trade window and clicking ACCEPT. (Think of it like buying a watch off a crook with a trench coat. If the watch doesn't work and you report him for selling stolen goods, he'll get hauled off for theft, but you won't get your cash back or a working watch.)

Why on earth would you play a betting game like that with a level 1? That just makes no sense man. Gotta be smarter than that. Also, why would you up your bet so much each time? Seems lke you were asking for it.
