Exclamation [ACTA][PCIPA] Help stop these monstrous bills! *Official Thread*

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=citzRjwk-sQ (acta video)

    in La Quadrature du Net:

ACTA is one more offensive against the sharing of culture on the Internet. ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement) is an agreement secretly negotiated by a small "club" of like-minded countries (39 countries, including the 27 of the European Union, the United States, Japan, etc). Negotiated instead of being democratically debated, ACTA bypasses parliaments and international organizations to dictate a repressive logic dictated by the entertainment industries.

ACTA would impose new criminal sanctions forcing Internet actors to monitor and censor online communications. It is thus a major threat to freedom of expression online and creates legal uncertainty for Internet companies. In the name of trademarks and patents, it would also hamper access to generic medicines in poor countries.

The European Parliament now has an ultimate opportunity to reject ACTA.

Please, when the time comes, we need your help...
Huge reddit thread for ACTA : http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/com...ead_awareness/

reddit thread for PCIPA : http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/com...sopapipa_make/

This Bill Entitled "The Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011" Is a Bill with overly broadened language that greatly threatens all of us.

"under language approved 19 to 10 by a House committee, the firm that sells you Internet access would be required to track all of your Internet activity and save it for 18 months, along with your name, the address where you live, your bank account numbers, your credit card numbers, and IP addresses you've been assigned."

    Please help us spread awareness!

The scary thing is the EU versions were drafted by people who are not members of parliament? How is this even possible?

  5. #5
Well there goes my plan of moving to Europe. How can people be so corrupt as to even consider these bills which utterly disregard their oaths they took when they took office?

That PCIPA is insane. If there is 1 security breach and those details are open to theft, literally millions of people will suffer from things ranging from having massive amounts of mail through the door advertising crap you don't want, phone calls at 10 PM from some call centre asking if you want to claim PPI, to things being purchased in your name because people have your bank number. It's like a big treasure chest for identity thieves and private information sellers to crack open, and with ISPs being forced to store all of this information they will either have to invest heavily in additional security or risk being destroyed by network security breaches.

The American government seems to be making lots of attempts to force other countries of the world to use their laws. My outlook on this whole "War against piracy" changes every time I dig a little deeper in to some new act that is being voted on.

Uh, excuse me? I don't think the government needs to be tracking each and every citizen that happens to be connected to the internet. What would be even worse is if this database did exist, and was then breached. There goes the bank accounts and credit card information of EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THE INTERNET. Yeah, fuck these bills.

Well the young people will not listen unless this type of legislation starts effecting Jersey Shore or Twitter (<--- 21 year old male writing this). I have never understood the apathy of my fellow classmates but this has gone to far , i've been told I care to much for too long and if this is not a blatant infringement on our rights then I don't know what is.

    LOL

If PCIPA passes and details get somehow leaked then every porn website you've visited will be listed along with your name and address/number.

Just from being on MMO-C and seeing all the fucked up shit people talk about. I can only imagine what your significant others/family would think of the type of porn websites ya'll sickos visit....

Tyrande: Well, I think our Goddess may have crafted your Gods in her spare time.

These extreme bills just never end...

This is dirty, and someone in the SOPA/PIPA thread called it when they said that these provisions would be smuggled into some bill that nobody would challenge like a Child Pornography bill.

Someone should ask about this in the next Republican presidential debate. I'd bet money Newt Gingrich and Santorum would crash and burn.

Let me play the devils advocate for at least a bit here...

I don't think those bills are big news. There have always been crazy bills but just recently people started to care about them. The internet makes communication easier and people are now finally able to fight those bills actively.

I am pretty sure that a few decades ago, there were similar bills but nobody knew about them.

All this... "we need to fight that omggg" attitude is becoming a little bit ridiculous. I am pretty sure SOPA would have never been passed even without the people signing the petition.

This being said... we really do not need ACTA, PCIPA or any other nazi bill... but they won't pass anyway. They just can't do it.

Uh... if more than 70% of congress supported it, why wouldn't it have passed? Care to enlighten me?
