Bit young for the Nixon/Kennedy debate, then.

Thankfully. People who listened to that debate on the radio thought Nixon won. People who watched it thought Kennedy did. This was the first televised debate and taught politicians a lot about the importance of your "look".

Also from what I understand Nixon was suffering from the flu that day and had a very high fever, giving him that sweaty "not so right" look.

Going to call tonight's debate in advance right now...

Unlike most folks, I didn't think Obama did "badly" the first debate and I don't think Romney was brilliant. I thought they both were just hum-drum and said nothing new. In that sense, tonight will be very much like the first. I don't think either of them are going to be brilliant or awful. They'll just be average.

However...

As long as Obama doesn't come out on stage, slip on a banana peel, faceplant, and then fall backwards into a flaming pile of dog poo - the media will proclaim that he had the most brilliant "comeback" of any person in the history of humanity and that Romney was weak by comparison.

The article says the error only affected maybe 50 people. Yeah, it shouldn't have happened, but it's doubtful it could affect the elections, and unless the people in charge of the elections are crazy, they'll be contacting those people ahead of time to make sure they understand what happened.

The California housing industry is a load of shit no matter which way you cut it. It's either a shitty whorthless load of shit or it's an overblown overhyped load of shit.

Generally because the local(city/county) governments sell HUGE swaths of land to contractors because they get all drool-face over supposed increased tax revenue, the contractors then go and build hundreds of homes, which are sold for stupid-high prices, which then in turn floods the market with stupidly-overpriced suburban and inner-city homes that noone can afford and then the bubble bursts.

Meh. In San Jose, where I grew up, developers usually buy up old properties and build like 6 houses on that same space because there are regulations preventing the developers from building on the mountainsides around the valley. Each of the 6 houses probably costs on the order of $800,000, and the way that younger people afford it is by renting out some of their rooms. There are still some neighborhoods where you can get old small houses for the $200k+ range.

I guess none of that above really had a point, so I'll make one. The high housing prices in CA are like that for a reason. It's a wonderful place to live and work if you can afford it, so people that can afford it are willing to pay for it. I like my relatively low cost of living in Houston, but if I had the money, I wouldn't mind moving back to an area where I have access to the beach (30 minutes away), the mountains w/ redwood forests (10 minutes away), San Francisco (45 mins), Napa Valley (1 hr away), Yosemite National Park (2.5-3 hours away), Skiing (3 hrs away), fresh produce year round from the central valley, and perfect weather all year.

Don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but another source basically confirms the Sept unemployment drop and sees unemployment dropping further in October so far as well, which hints that the official BLS unemployment numbers should also drop in the early November announcement.

They confirm things about the BLS September report that conservatives raged about: unemployment down, and a lot of part time jobs added. A lot of part time jobs are usually added this time of year, but even factoring in the seasonal adjustments unemployment is down, so it looks like some of these new jobs gains will last.
