Thankfully. People who listened to that debate on the radio thought Nixon won. People who watched it thought Kennedy did. This was the first televised debate and taught politicians a lot about the importance of your "look".

Also from what I understand Nixon was suffering from the flu that day and had a very high fever, giving him that sweaty "not so right" look.

In that sense, tonight will be very much like the first. I don't think either of them are going to be brilliant or awful. They'll just be average.

    However...

As long as Obama doesn't come out on stage, slip on a banana peel, faceplant, and then fall backwards into a flaming pile of dog poo - the media will proclaim that he had the most brilliant "comeback" of any person in the history of humanity and that Romney was weak by comparison.

Someone actually planned to say 'binder full of women' and than set up Romney to be corrected by the moderator, with an ending featuring Obama quoting Romney's screams of 'government does not create jobs' as the first line of Obama's reply to a question of the biggest misconception about him?

    ---------- Post added 2012-10-18 at 06:56 AM ----------

CROWLEY: Governor Romney, pay equity for women?

    ROMNEY: ...

Now one of the reasons I was able to get so many good women to be part of that team was because of our recruiting effort. But number two, because I recognized that if you're going to have women in the workforce that sometimes you need to be more flexible. My chief of staff, for instance, had two kids that were still in school.

She said, I can't be here until 7 or 8 o'clock at night. I need to be able to get home at 5 o'clock so I can be there for making dinner for my kids and being with them when they get home from school. So we said fine. Let's have a flexible schedule so you can have hours that work for you.

    ...

    ---------- Post added 2012-10-18 at 07:25 AM ----------

By the way, his staff member complaining was a good counter after Obama said this:

OBAMA: Well, Katherine, that's a great question. And, you know, I was raised by a single mom who had to put herself through school while looking after two kids. And she worked hard every day and made a lot of sacrifices to make sure we got everything we needed. My grandmother, she started off as a secretary in a bank. She never got a college education, even though she was smart as a whip. And she worked her way up to become a vice president of a local bank, but she hit the glass ceiling. She trained people who would end up becoming her bosses during the course of her career.

She didn't complain. That's not what you did in that generation. And this is one of the reasons why one of the first -- the first bill I signed was something called the Lily Ledbetter bill. And it's named after this amazing woman who had been doing the same job as a man for years, found out that she was getting paid less, and the Supreme Court said that she couldn't bring suit because she should have found about it earlier, whereas she had no way of finding out about it. So we fixed that. And that's an example of the kind of advocacy that we need, because women are increasingly the breadwinners in the family. This is not just a women's issue, this is a family issue, this is a middle-class issue, and that's why we've got to fight for it.

Meh. In San Jose, where I grew up, developers usually buy up old properties and build like 6 houses on that same space because there are regulations preventing the developers from building on the mountainsides around the valley. Each of the 6 houses probably costs on the order of $800,000, and the way that younger people afford it is by renting out some of their rooms. There are still some neighborhoods where you can get old small houses for the $200k+ range.

I guess none of that above really had a point, so I'll make one. The high housing prices in CA are like that for a reason. It's a wonderful place to live and work if you can afford it, so people that can afford it are willing to pay for it. I like my relatively low cost of living in Houston, but if I had the money, I wouldn't mind moving back to an area where I have access to the beach (30 minutes away), the mountains w/ redwood forests (10 minutes away), San Francisco (45 mins), Napa Valley (1 hr away), Yosemite National Park (2.5-3 hours away), Skiing (3 hrs away), fresh produce year round from the central valley, and perfect weather all year.

Don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but another source basically confirms the Sept unemployment drop and sees unemployment dropping further in October so far as well, which hints that the official BLS unemployment numbers should also drop in the early November announcement.

    http://www.gallup.com/poll/158060/un...d-october.aspx

They confirm things about the BLS September report that conservatives raged about: unemployment down, and a lot of part time jobs added. A lot of part time jobs are usually added this time of year, but even factoring in the seasonal adjustments unemployment is down, so it looks like some of these new jobs gains will last.

So much for "the report was rigged" or that "things are getting worse" like Republicans are trying to convince everyone.

Oh no, you see it's still a big scam because it just means more people are giving up looking for work and starving to death in their homes -- not that jobs are being created, because, after all, there is no possible way this inept communist muslim socialist marxist knows enough to implement any policy that does anything other than steal our money and make our country less secure.

I think I put enough sarcasm in there for it to be obvious.

Really? "The Republicans" don't need to convince people of jack...it's right there for them to see. Barry's policies have failed, with the exception of getting some free phones and food stamps to his supporters.

Sounds like you do need convincing. The result of Obama's policy is also the numbers your responding to and the Dow doubling. Even with those two horrible things, Republicans put the breaks on 'are you doing better than 4 years ago' mighty quick after the RNC. Probebly because people answered...

As long as her partner Han Solo can help defeat the evil empire, we are set.

It not Chewbecca. It's Wookie. Chewbecca is a specific character, and so has certain personality and individual qualities about him. Wookies are big, brown creatures considered more primitive and not able to speak in a language the rest of us understand. It's a term only used for blacks, and I believe was first prominently used for Michelle Obama in a clearly derogatory manner.

Me neither, in my experience black people don't have a lot of body hair.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Thanks for the clarification.

Anyone who has read some of the Star Wars books would know that being called a wookie should be a compliment
