    CPU: Core i5 3570 or 3550

GPU: Nvidia 670 or AMD 7950 (The bigger brothers of these are pricy still)
Thanks =) I've been looking a little more (and my budget has gone up a little, woo!), and I've had my eye on the Alienware X51. As I'd like it to last, I've been thinking about going with -

    Intel® Core™ i7-3770 (3.40GHz, 8MB L3 Cache, 4C)
    1GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 555.
    8192MB (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 Dual Channel Memory

I'm not intending this to be a colossal beast of a PC - I can't afford that. But as far as I can tell, I ought to be able to play pretty well with those specs. Hopefully ordering it within the next week or so, possibly trying to get into the last beta.

Steer away from Alienware tbh, you end up paying alot of money for a brand rather than better hardware.

If your PC is mainly meant for gaming you don't really gain much by buying an i7 processor for it, so go for an i5 3570 and put the saved money into a better GPU.

I really wouldn't go under a GTX 670 or AMD 7950 on the GPU side.

Alienware has a bad habit of pairing a 1,000$ CPU with a 150$ GPU and pricing it accordingly. Which is silly, they're selling gaming computers ffs.

Indeed, well basicly what you said, + they usually use low end Mobos and PSUs too.

They just use the high end CPU as a selling point.

I've mostly seen positive reviews for the X51 - the one thing they all tend to bring up is the lack of an SSD. The results from the tests they run seem reasonable.

My problem is, I just want something that's simple, small (one of the reasons I looked at the X51 in the first place), and upgradeable if I choose at a later date. I'm too incompetent to build my own, and I'd rather be able to call people like Dell if something goes wrong.

  7. #407
That's because people who buy the X51 either buy it knowing that the 555 isn't a high end card or not knowing any better. You do NOT want a 1000$ CPU for gaming, no games currently out properly utilize a 220$ 2500k yet.
Do you have a place nearby that you could buy the parts from and pay a little extra to have them put it together for you? It would still be significantly cheaper than Alienware for significantly better performance, and you can always go back there if you have problems with it.

Just use http://www.computerplanet.co.uk/ or something simelar to choose the hardware you want / need.

Check the build i linked a few posts up, put that together on the site in a matter of 5 mins, that'll blow anything alienware has to pieces at that price point.

As for failures you just send any faulty hardware in and if it's still under warrenty (2 years) you'll get a replacement, no fuss.

I'm not really good at this but here is my laptop:

    Laptop Dell N5110:
    Intel Pentium CPU B940 @ 2.00GHz
    AMD Radeon HD6470M 1GB
    3GB RAM

    Will it be sufficient?
Oh delicious muffins, I bow thee!

I guess it'll run, but don't expect much more than 25fps avg on low settings :S

You have plenty CPU power and RAM to get along fine so i'd expect very stable FPS even with alot going on in say WvW, you might struggle abit with very high settings and resolutions on the 6870 tho because of the slightly low 1gb ram on that card.

At the very least you should be able to run the game at medium / semi high settings with little to no FPS drops.

Although still nothing is certain since we've yet to experience a fully optimized game.

All in all wait for release and upgrade GPU or add a 2nd for xFire if you feel more eyecandy is needed.

I'm going to improve soon my computer, but something will remains:
Ram: 1333 Max (i think 4/6 Gb will be my final choice)
CPU: Pentium Dual Core E5700 3.0 Ghz.

I hope i will hande the game with ultra settings on WvW too.. What do you think?

If you want ultra setting I suggest getting an i5 processor with at least 3.0ghz

Uhm. Why? A good graphic card , something like 1 (no sli) Asus overclocked Nvidia 560 with RAM 4/6Gb 1333 will not be enough for ultra?

MMOs in general are putting alot of strain on the CPU, usually more than the GPU.

Uhm. I truly hope Anet will optimize the engine at least charging more on GPU. I'm ok to spend money for a Nvidia 560 and 4 more Gb of ram (win7 ultimate 64bit). I'm not surely going to buy everything, paying thousand dollars for 5 fps more. I'm just scared to buy a 560 and still play at mid because of CPU. Meh, time will tell, when final is released, and some more patch will come. Thanks for your reply

I was surprised to see the MOP settings higher than GW2.
