    Pointless Phrases

    Hi all

I am a fan of pointless phrases. You know the things people come up with just to say something, such as:-

"Fresh Fruit n Veg" - never seen a shop that sells stale ones
"It's always in the last place you look" - I found my keys, I'll think I will carry on looking for them.
"Cheap at half the price" - Well of course it is
"Bob has broken his back. Has he?/You're joking!" - No, I'm joking, I just wanted to cheer you up.

So what's your favourite/most hated pointless phrase?

I hate, "Well, you know what they say..." then it's followed by some stupid bullshit that no one but some obscure minority of idiots believes or espouses.

People should say "its always the most unlikely place you look."

    Anyways, the one I hate:

    I could care less.

3 am in the morning. If it's 3 AM well, it wouldn't be during the day, would it?

Me - "Yes I'd like the exact order he had."

    Waitress - "The EXACT SAME?"

Exact means the literal thing. Exact same is so redundant. V_V

I wind people up by finishing that sentence with "it's night".

    So.... So.... Pedantic.

It's not a phrase, but I really hate when people say 'Irregardless'
Also, when people tend to say something to the affect of: 'Am I wrong or am I right' It tends to get under my skin..
If you have to ask, then you know you're wrong.

    Hmm, ones I dislike/hate.

"something is something" like "fat is fat", "a hater is a hater", "a fool is a fool" etc.

"do your good deed of the day and.." , I get upset or unnerved very rarely and this one can get me over that edge. It's like "why the f... do you assume I want to do something as stupid as a good deed per day? Maybe I do an evil deed weekly instead.. or wear a bucket over my head each Monday for an hour"

On a similar note, anytime an athlete or a coach says the word "execute". Stop it.

Oh yeah, and while still on the subject of sports, "winner, winner, chicken dinner" needs to die in a fire.

I work fast food, and the next someone that tells me "you gotta get faster" is getting stabbed in the eye.

Or, "don't worry, in a few hours, the sun will come up"

"Don't take offence but..." and then they say something cheeky to you. Cracks me up how just a few words is supposed to allow someone to insult you to your face.

You would be surprised at how many people at the restaurant I work at say "I'd like the exact same thing" and then I go about making an identical sandwich, and then they complain about onions being on it. So, when someone tells me "I want the exact same thing as him," I say "Exactly? So onions, mayo, blah blah blah?" And 99% of the time, they say "oh, no mayo." So that one, blame the dumb customers who don't know what "exact" means, not the waitress/fast food guy/whatever.

Another pointless word, not really phrase, is the overuse of the word "literally." I'm convinced half the world doesn't know what it means.

    "First things first"
"At the end of the day"

    In the cinema:
"Hey, you've seen this?" Nope, im watching the floor all the time

    Or simple:
"-SIGH- Life is short..." Sure, it's shorter than WHAT exactly?

My friend gets fucking angry when I say "once in a blue". Always tells me it's "once in a blue moon" not "once in a blue", you retard. I know that, but I'd rather say it my way. :3

"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down "happy". They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” --John Lennon
