Pedroia is a bit too mouthy, he's a second baseman, not a team executive, his job is to play the game not tell people what to do, shut your mouth & play the game on the field rather than bitching about your manager, you can't do jack when you have banged up players & those who aren't banged up aren't performing, if you want to see who should be being bitched out at Fenway most observers will point straight to the pitching mound at 40% of their rotation coughing up 20 losses with ERA's over 5! Perdoia should have been carpeted when he reportedly told Valentine "that wasn't how we do things here" when Valentine slated Youk, unfortunately he (Pedroia) still feels like the Francona regime is in play when it's not - so time to pipe down & take care of business yourself.

Welp, way to hurt your team Melky.

I guess now we know why the Giants decided not to continue contract talks until the off-season...and also why they traded for Pence, who they'll owe ~13M next year after arbitration.

Silly silly boy, not like he doesn't have the talent to be an above average outfielder & above average bat, the one thing which held him back was his mentality, the Yankees felt having him around Cano would be detrimental to Cano so got shot of Melky when they could. Annoyingly he had potential to improve in the field & at the plate, but he just didn't have the drive to do it.

I definitely let loose a maniacal laugh at this news

I suppose baseball was also saved from the possibility of giving MVP to somebody who was doping AGAIN, this time they only gave him the All Star MVP

    PS- Go Dodgers!

Grats on messing up your regimen and getting caught Melky. Its exactly what Braun did last year, he screwed up his regimen and it didn't leave his system in time for the test. Don't think you can squeeze in a session if you are out late and aren't going to get enough sleep for the testosterone from the patch to dissipate. Melky and Braun are hardly the only guys using synthetic T and probably won't be the last ones to get caught.

Wow, didn't know that... just looked it up and the half-life of a T treatment is 2-4 hours...

    Go Felix!

Also the second perfect game of the year at Safeco Field, and the third no-hitter.

According to Victor Conte, the dude from Balco who basically ran the steroid gambit in the MLB and should probably have his name next to Bonds on the HR record, an enormous portion of the players do it and it is completely undetectable. You can go home from a game or practice, back to a hotel even, slap on the patch and as long as you get it on before its too late it is completely undetectable by the time you get back to work the following day if you do end up having a random drug test. Braun got caught on a day he wasn't expecting to be tested and did his regiment too late. Unless the MLB drastically alters their testing strategy, it is next to impossible to catch guys because the stuff is gone by the time they will be tested even if the test is random and unannounced. Conte estimated that the number of guys doing it in the MLB and minor leagues is in the three digit range. Its super difficult to get caught and it tremendously boosts your ability to recover from injuries and workouts.

Big fucking grats to Felix Hernandez. That dude is amazing. I'm shocked Seattle didn't find a way to lose during his perfect game frankly. Not much longer and he can leave for a real franchise, not one owned by an owner who has never even watched his team play.

Felix is pretty awesome I think before the season I posted something like he is the most underrated player in baseball being an A's fan I have seen him pitch more times then I would like to see. About the PED's its funny that nobody looks at the "fastest man in the world" as well since his buddy's are part of the balco stuff one being the chemist the other 3 buddy's of his tested + for them. Also the reason we have more perfect games is because of all the testing being done its why batting avg's are down and why HR's are down and more perfect games and no hitters have been racked up.

Ya steroids are largely gone. Testosterone doesn't take a good or mediocre player and make them a star level player like steroids. Testosterone just helps the good players stay at their current level of goodness for longer, it doesn't make them gods like steroids did.

Hernandez is a beast - no doubt one of the best pitchers in the last decade... not to mention wanting to actually stay on a craphole of a team instead of asking for a trade to a contender? Classy for sure.

Testosterone, dihydrotestosterone and estrogen are all steroids. Anabolic steroids are synthesized drugs that mimic the effects of natural steroids. The key difference is that labs have been attempting to create 'undetectable' drugs so they can be used at will and have longer lasting effects rather than at predetermined times to dodge drug tests.

They've been the loser of three perfect games in four seasons. Only two other teams have had more than one perfect game pitched against them: the Dodgers and the Twins.

The Mariners have been involved in two perfect games this season and one multi-pitcher no-hitter. All of these games were played at Safeco.

    I love random baseball trivia.

Meh. I'd argue that most players who throw perfect games aren't necessarily great pitchers. A lot of them nowadays don't feel like the Hall of Fame kind of players. Randy Johnson in '04, maybe Roy Halladay. There's a little luck involved, and definitely skill, but it doesn't really give a mark of a great player.

  18. #618
There's maybe 2-3 pitchers when you look at the schedule and see they're pitching where you think "ah shit, that's a loss then" even as a Yankees fan & Hernandez is one of those (along with Verlander incidentally), he's a beast of a pitcher and when he's on form look out because he's a bitch to hit, even when he's not on form he's difficult!

there were 0 perfect games from 1968 ~ 1981.. and now there's been 6 (7 if you count the galarraga/jim joyce game) in the past 5 years...

    craziness

  20. #620
in essence 7 in the past 5 years PLUS all the no-hitters - now you know why they call them PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS, clearly they were helping them see the ball better!
