The Jimi Hendrix Experience- Axis Bold As Love
One of the first albums to see the electric guitar used to create a full range of atmospheres, in a rock-pop song context.
The lyrical rhythm comping is possibly the best of all time.

Pink Floyd- Soundtrack for the Film More
This album to me represents the turning point for the Band away from Syd Barret's experimentation into Gilmour's more controlled approach.
A real milestone for early prog.

    The Pixies- Surfer Rosa
This album is the reason Nirvana said their greatest accomplishment was ripping off the Pixies.
I like it because with most rock I hear currently, I can trace at least some facet of the sound to this album.

The Protomen - Act 2 The Father Of Death

The Glitch Mob - We Can Make The World Stop

    Parov Stelar - Coco

Just some random albums from the past few years that I believe are worth checking out. I want to list a ridiculous amount, but these are some of the more eclectic choices that come to mind.

Let's get the 1990 vibe here, the best year for heavy metal imo.

    Megadeth - Rust in Peace

If you like Metallica, and want more bands to listen to, don't hate on Megadeth because Mustaine used to be an asshole. Rust in Peace was what presented me to Megadeth, before that I only really listened to Metallica, and after that this album has become my favorite album of all time. It takes A LONG time to get used to Mustaine's voice, but it'll be worth it in the end, I guarantee you.

    Anthrax - Persistence of Time

It's way darker and more complex than their previous albums, it's also easier to listen to than the rest of their albums. Scott Ian is a killer riff-machine as shown with this album, and the band overall is very underrated. The songs on this record have very deep meanings, and pretty much every song on this album kicks MAX ass.

    Judas Priest - Painkiller

I have never in my life experienced such an awesome drum sound as on this album, it's like a punch right in the face to every other album, and I'm not even a drummer! Pretty much every metal veteran has listened to this album, and they'd know that this album is about kicking ass, every song kicks your ass, Rob Halford's vocal range is INSANE. One thing is for sure, this album will kick your ass.

    Dummy - Portishead

    Essential trip hop record. Sexy.

Black Earth - Bohren & Der Club of Gore

Jazz elements, but this is really an ambient record. Sombre, forlorn and brooding.

    Blazing Arrow, Blackalicious

    Fun west coast groove. Underrated.

MGK - Half Naked & Almost Famous [EP] (Rap)
    Death - Leprosy (Death Metal)
Born of Osiris - The Discovery (Progressive Death Metal/"Djent")

All are freaking great recent discoveries I've made, def check them out if those genres suit you and you don't know them

    Shinedown- Leave a Whisper (rock)
    Black Keys- Brothers(alt rock)
    Tenacious D- Tenacious D (rock/comedy/greatness)

Probably my three favorite modern albums that I will listen to front to back every time without finding a song I dislike even slightly.

metallica - master of puppets... had the baddest "a" side ever (when albums still had "a" sides, lol.) "b side rocked too

jimi hendrix blues - his blues stuff blows his rock stuff away imo, and i think his rock stuff is awesome

i cant narrow down a third, so here's a couple music themed movies:

pink floyd the wall - classic for a reason. i watched it stone sober and still felt high. and the judge... o my god, the judge...

this is spinal tap - parody of a "rockumentary", subject being an 80's hair band trying to salvage their careers. hilarious
