Yeah i'd notcied that and TBH i haven't played wow even minimally in months been playing other games like console games and TERA. I've really just been hoping to find games with battle mages more like my good ol Enh Shaman and how DK were in Wrath(can't stand the way they work in cata) and yeah Guardians seem rather close justw odnering how well a dual dagger necro or elementalist could work.

Well, I can't speak for the Necromancer, but the dual dagger Elementalist is quite fun, if a bit squishy.

Trying to decide between Guardian and elementalist myself at the moment (usually play a paladin or mage in other games) leaning a bit towards guardian as melee classes have been appealing to me more lately. Got in the stress test, did like the class but was jumping around trying to create one of each class to give each of them a look, didn't give me as much of a chance to feel the class out as I'd hoped.

Oh and @ Exedore nice Ruri avatar.
It's either the Guardian or a Mesmer. They are different in terms of playstyle indeed but are closer to battle mage type of gameplay

Yeah i just like going all magic and fury on guys asses in games. Or to put it another way i LOVE my odin types. Oh and for those who don't know the NAME Odin is derived from a word roughly meaning savage fury/wisdon at the same time. Badass an an apr way to describe my style. I like to get in close and cut and stab my enemies while using magic to lay on the extra hurt.

BTW i'm probably gonna go Sword and Torch so i shall name it Cut and Cauterize as far as my playstyle/build.

hey quick question for the guardian class. does it lack ranged abilities? i cant seem to find anything that would be equivalent to say a bow or gun. i want to play the guardian class but i dont want to be stuck in a huge like 40v40 battle or something not being able to do anything but commit suicide on the front lines u know?

Yes and no. Scepter has 1200 range (max for most classes) and staff has some abilities that are 1200 range. However, guardian is not that interactive long range. It's much better in melee or mid range. The long range option is there just to give you something in the few situations where you can only act at long range.

No need to worry though. It's rare when melee suicide in huge battles is the only option. Those huge battles are only in WvW, mostly an artifact of low levels (limited money to invest in siege), and you don't have to participate in the big battles - you can go somewhere else or man a siege weapon. In the beta, siege weapons in WvW were limited by money to buy blueprints, instead of supply. After a couple weeks, blueprint cost will be negligible and supply will become the resource of WvW. Melee can form smaller groups to raid supply caravans or supply camps in order to contribute instead of standing in a big zerg.

Wasn't sure if this was worth having a thread of it's own, so I'm just going to post it here.

I originally made a weapons, skills, and traits calculator for personal use only, but I decided I'd share it with everyone since I doubt I'm the only one who would find a use for it (even if it's only for this last week before the game comes out).

It's just an excel spreadsheet, so there's no fancy graphics or designs. The only things that are currently missing are Sigils, Runes, and Jewels, which I'll be adding after the game launches.

    Download
What it Looks Like / How to Use

Edit: I'm an idiot.. I just realized that French site I had previously seen has a button in the corner with different languages. I don't know how I ever missed that. :\

Awesome Exedore thank you very much for ur response! that makes me feel much better!! =)

And also, with the guardian being a support class, does it feel so supporty that u feel like u lack damage? and if u go 2 hander, do u just feel like a cheap version of a warrior? or does the guardian class feel very strong when specced offensively.

Because TBH, i WANT to play a guardian, it looks very appealing. But my heart is telling me warrior, cause i just want to smash ppl faces in. and im not sure if a guardian can fit that role. do u feel like u do lackluster damage on ur guardian?

Guardian has one of the best sustained damage outputs levels in the game IMHO, in some cases better than the Warrior. The Warrior will have higher burst though. In any case, Guardian does not feel as a Warrior rip-off at all. To me at least Guardian is more fun to play, I find Warrior a bit... bland.

I agree. I tried warrior during the first or second BWE and beforehand was really excited to play them but after i tried guardian warrior is just very bland and boring imo.

As a man who has never bwen able to stand pallies even as ret not at all. We have cool shit like fire breating and a burn skill every 5th hit as a passive and go greatsword and just mow enemies down while as a hammer user hello knockdown town. The mace feels a bit sluggish but it IS basically a support weapon for us(at least as far as i can gather) so yeah sword and torch or say greatsword and hammer works wonders but TBH even the mace and focus combo doesn't feel so bad.

Can't wait to try it out. POW! Mace to the face.

I tried this out during the last beta as it was frustrating to have to choose between the helmet and the shoulders. I was surprised that it worked but when I went to test it out on the Stress Test to see if it was still doable it was already changed. The item now binds to the starting character. So you will not be able to have them both at least for a while.

ArenaNet's goal is that all professions can have builds that focus on damage, support, or control. For the most part, that is true, though they're still tweaking things a bit.

No matter what you do, the guardian will still have some level of support. However, if you choose weapons, slot skills, traits, and runes properly, your damage will be very good. Unlike a warrior, the choices aren't immediately obvious or as plentiful, but they're there. It's also important to note that most weapons do the same damage regardless of being one-handed or two-handed. Two-handed weapons tend to have better area damage, though. The main difference between warrior and guardian is how they feel, not what their capabilities. The warrior has a very "in your face" feel where practically every ability is doing something to hinder your opponents and keep you in their face. In doing that, warriors expose themselves and the more offensive weapons have few defensive options. They need to rely on dodging and keeping the pressure up. In comparison, guardians are better at surviving while in the fray. Guardians have abilities to make single attacks miss (Blind condition and Aegis boon), projectiles not count (Sanctuary, etc) as well as abilities that grant Protection (-33% direct damage taken) and Regeneration (Regain health per second) boons, and more options for condition removal. Their damage does tend to be more sustained and less burst compared to what warriors can do.

I'm sure you can find items that have the same model.

Thus why I typed "at least for a little while." You will no longer be able to do this at character creation.....

According to some internal patch notes, apparently Judge's Intervention and Contemplation of Purity are now instant by default. This makes sense since both are stun breaks and are fairly useless in that regard without the "meditations are instant" trait. So I wonder if that trait will/has change as well.

That... kinda does make the trait worthless. Hrm.
