Hard drive packaging! What the hell, seriously. Doesn't have any protection, doesn't even come in a card box.

Bought a few new hard drives today on my coffee break from an actual physical store and this became quite apparent. First you pick it up from the store and it's on this plastic anti-theft container, completely free to rattle around. After you've paid it they remove it and it's left with nothing but the anti static bag. Where the fuck am I supposed to stuff the drives now for the rest of the work day to keep them safe. o_o Careless..

It's not like some bubble wrap or even just a card box would cost that much extra. And how do they ship the drives to the store is a mystery. It's not like they had that good protective shell on their own I don't think (to take shocks if you throw it around a little). o_O

Mine came in an anti-static bag and wrapped in an inch of bubblewrap.

OEM drives come in large boxes with cut foam, where there's a bunch of slots in the foam to fit 3.5mm hard drives individually wrapped in static bags. It does its job well.

Really, you would have to subject a drive to a hefty amount of G force to break it when it's parked/not running.

So, anyone know why 0x124 errors would suddenly appear after a year of being perfectly stable? I'm guessing it's a sign the silicon is weakening or something.

If that's the case, I'm going to have to kill my overclock. @_@

But why do I still feel depressed thinking about it!?!

At Asera. What's your overclock and voltage? :-P Maybe give it a notch more voltage.. Just to counter the degradation.

4600mhz @ 1.375v It was stable at 1.345 before, I've had to increase it, and it's still 0x124ing

That's in the eye of the beholder though. I have friends that swear their old Pentium 4 era Dell Dimension towers -- the ones that opened like a clam, remember those -- were 'perfect cases'. :s

Quick question: if I add more ram to make a bigger ram disk, will my oem windows detect it, so I can turn it onto a ram disk, or will it just go: fuck you dawg, upgrade me!"?

Btw did you guys read about msi overvolting the hell out of their new nvidia GPUs?

  18. #2238
    1) Yes, it will work, provided you are not 32bit limited

    2) Doesn't matter much, their cooling doesn't really support the high overvolting; It doesn't cool the VRM and memory properly. Gigabyte who does achieves much better results without overvolting (in my experience)

What is your guys most common filename? I think mine is sefsef or sefsefsef.
