What do you want, screenshots? Population at fleet and other indicator locations has definitely dropped by 75 % or even more on my server. It's the only numbers we have. Sure, it's possible that there are other effects than people leaving the game/server at work here, perhaps fewer people have motivation to sit at fleet looking for groups when they're already full geared etc, but that is what happened to us.

You can say "Server pops are dropping because I see less people on my server," and then allow the debate as to whether or not this is real or just your perception.
And we had several people who play or used to play on Niman post on the thread basically agreeing.

All I really have is the experience of going from a full server with long queues to get in to a ghost town and torstatus telling me that my server is basically average, therefore, most servers are likely struggling and some are obviously pretty damn dead.

You can't say "Server pops are down 75% because I see less people on my server," and then expect anybody to take you seriously without some evidence to back up that exact number.
I'm not sure why I would care. All I'm saying is, the thread started with people posting about their really high population server going fine and basically asking "what population decline?"... and I'm responding by saying that looking at things from an average server (according to torstatus) it really feels like the game is completely dead already.

For me, it's all rather simple. I really liked this game at start but a lot of crap (bugs, Ilum etc) left me very frustrated. I'd still keep playing as Huttball would keep me entertained but with the server half dead that doesn't really work and being burned out on frustration doesn't leave me interested in leveling and grinding again.

Total opposite to what the guy above says to be honest. Our server is becoming too crowded. Doing some quests now has that old wow feel where you would wait for the boss to re-spawn with a load of other guys. When I started my 1st char it was nothing like that.

So our server isn't dead at all. Far more busy then my wow server anyway.

Yes, well as others have pointed out, many are moving to the higher populated servers to reroll. I'd expect it to get much busier too.

The rest are on their existing server moaning, like me, about there being very few people around to socialise with, I don't expect this to get any better. And I've no interested in rerolling, or paying to move to another server. I think a lot of people feel this way.

I agree with Cobblars. I do not want to reroll after all the time spent on my characters, earning Legacy, grinding pvp etc.... Consolidating into fewer higher populations servers is a good idea. But transfers need to be allowed.

We can debate this all day long, we don't have the numbers so we will never know...

Just take WoW for example. If I look at my server on WoWRanking, it looks like 70-90% of the guilds are gone compared to the number of guilds that have cleared ICC. If you look at the people in Stormwind at any given time (my server is 95% alliance, so cba looking at horde), there is barely a handful of people hanging out around the AH compared to massive overcrowding at the beginning of Cataclysm. If you start a low level character, you will be lucky if you see 1 person in 20 levels of play.

Blizzard is claiming that subscription is only down 10%, yet it feels like the number of people online is down 70-90%.

Thing is, both companies are claiming very healthy subscriptions. What I would really like to know is the number of online time/week that goes on because I am quite sure that both those numbers are much lower than what the subscriptions implies for both games.

For SWToR, a lot of people were very active when the game was released, rushed through the game and were logging massive hourse/week. A lot of those people have pretty much cleared the content, got geared and are now only playing sporadically hence the low numbers of people on the fleet. People log on and either go do some dailies, do some PvP or joint their guilds in raids.

For WoW, lots of people are logging sporadically to do the odd raid or participate in some of the events. However, a lot of people are now waiting MoP and have reduced their online time dramatically.

In both cases, it looks like subscriptions are still relatively healthy and steady. However, in both cases, the number of hours people are spending online has most likely dropped dramatically. The reasons are just different.

I'm not sure how people are saying that population hasn't stagnated or went up since launch. As of right now on American servers there are 22 standard pop, with the remaining 100+ servers being light. In EU, 5 standard and 1 full (obviously the most popular, Tomb of Freedon Nadd). Asia Pacific is all 3 light.

At launch there were a ton of full, very heavy and heavy servers. The server I played on (Grand Master Zym), used to be heavy+ at launch. Now? It's almost always light. I'm on the Fleet with 25 people right now.

i remember a time when there were queues to get onto a server..

After the first 30 free days were up, I played for another month, and watched the folks slowly drop away, so had to cancel my sub..im going to give the game another chance though with the patch!

Great game, but they really need to mix some of the servers together, and there is definitely something wrong with the system that tells you how heavy the server is..

I could be way off in wanting this, but I didn't really notice a decline in numbers or friends logging in less till several months after Cata was released and several months after WotLK release. Two months out for SWTOR and many people had already reached the point of logging in less.

This has gotten rather pointless. Everyone agrees a server merger is needed. WTF is the topic of discussion again?

That's because it is a much shorter trip. When WoW came out I was very active for months before I capped. With TOR I capped in a few weeks and wasn't nearly as active I was years ago. I had nineteen toons and went through four servers and still got a 50 in a few weeks.

Well in all honestly the thread really has run its course and most people are in agreement that server transfers/mergers would be a good idea. Closing this thread would just mean someone else will open another one shortly after with a slightly altered title. I'd say it's best to just keep all the population/merger discussions in one thread and close and redirect to this one.

It just seems to have devolved into another SWTOR vs WoW thread again... but that seems to be the MO of most of these threads :/

Original WoW leveling took so long that there were many of us who quit the game out of boredom before max level, though.

But there's a huge difference in reaction to WoW and SWToR. I remember the reaction to WoW, it wasn't massively hyped up beforehand but it got popular with word of mouth, people were running around telling people about the game like they were cult recruiters. SWToR has been totally opposite, it was hyped up by players and then a month or two in the word of mouth is mostly negative.

Ranked warzones are just another grind,A lot of players like it or not do want gear upgrades for higher ratings. If you read my post I mention that no one is going to sacrifice the augment slots for the vanity high rated gear. Making it pointless to even have premades and try and win. Because all we get are a recolor or the other gear which we won't be using since we will miss out on 5 augment slots. Also probably a red version of another mount they add. Pvp end game looks grim to be honest.

they could announce it saying we aware of the problem we are working on a solution. But they think is fine given the graphs they shown on guild summit

Well I saw these posted in another thread so I figured I might as well post them here as well.

US PVE and RP-PVE Servers Population
US PVP and RP-PVP Servers Population

While I personally think that this game's subscription numbers are probably "settling," at the least...
However, the numbers above seem even lower than I expected.

i agree with the hours online post. and about my server (naddist rebels), its really odd bc at launch there was always a waiting time to play, now its usually standard or heavy BUT the kicker is, as republic at launch there were maybe 20 people on the fleet, nowadays, probably half the empire rerolled republic, so we usually have 70-110 people on the fleet at a time, and we get LOTS of rep v rep huttball anytime before 6pm-1am Est.

Everyone here knows that Legions Of Lettow was the worst crowded server on SWTOR release and the fact that it's the biggest server probably hasn't budged anywhere.

At peak times, there are maybe at best 10 or so server that are light. Not 100+. And yeah those server looks pretty dead. I went on one of them and there was literally 15 50s combines on both sides in the middle of the day. Granted it was middle of the day, but there should have been more on.

Going by fleet numbers isn't the right thing to do. My server had usually 5+ of EACH BG going at a given time, people running constant FPs/HMs and raids, people on planets doing who knows what and still a sizable number on Ilum on both factions. Going by fleet number is terrible. I don't sit in fleet that often because of how laggy it is, and most sensible people PVP queue from their ships or inside their class instance so they don't lag.

In short, yes some servers need merges, but it's only a few. A lot of other servers are decent.

They need to lock the higher pop servers so trials/new people roll on other servers (lower the population cap to add queues) so people roll on other servers. They gave in to the masses crying about queues and raised the caps, so that's why those lighter servers populations suffered.

I'm calling BS on that 450 number. I'm on The Fatman, one of the highest pop servers, and at most I've seen in fleet at peak times (it's also usually full with a 5-10 min queue time to put it into perspective) was 315. Never over that. I find it hard to believe having 450 on a standard pop server.
