Playing US WOW in Europe

I currently live in the US and i play on a US server but due to work and family reasons i need to move to europe or england in particuar for a few months and i want to carry on playing wow. Now i know its near to impossible to character transfer to a EU server so i would like to ask does anyone have any experience playing on a us server in europe?

Is it possible, is the latency really bad to make it unplayable, will i have problems subscribing if i use a english bank account number

I very seriously doubt that you'll be able to transfer your toon from US WoW to EU. Although I know it is possible to play. My old GM was living in England and he was playing with a US copy of WoW on the oceanic servers (which I know are located in USA still) and a friend of mine who lives in Australia opted to get an EU version of WoW off Ebay and play that instead of just playing the US version.

So yes i'm pretty sure you'll be able to play just fine

Considering America is like 27th on global internet rankings behind most of the EU you can probably do just as good (or better) in the reverse situation.

I'm told if you call Blizz personally it might be possible to transfer your account to EU, no experience with this though, I just bought a new account.

Yeah you should be able to play just fine. All you need to do is make sure the WoW client you are using is the US version. As far as currency goes, I don't think there'll be a problem, however if there is just contact Blizzard and explain the situation.

Im from the UK and play on US servers and have no issues reguarding lag etc or paying for my account via a UK bank account it ends up being MUCH cheaper think i get charged around £11-12 (saves me £3 since in the UK its £15 a month) each month depending on the $ exchange. I play US cause back when first started played with US folks via another MMO so to stay and play together ended up with US account.

I've played on American servers in England and had 200-300ms, usually I have 50ms, it's not too bad. You could also invest in software to reduce your ping also!

Well, if you will be playing from Europe, make sure realm you play on hosted on East Coast for best latency. I currently work in South East Asia and play on Oceanic realm (wich is hosted on West Coast in LA) with Australian guild. We are 8/8HM in 25m and have RBG team wich was ~2.3k last season, most players play with 160-250ms latency depending on their ISP, I would assume connection from Europe to East Coast would be much better (60-90ms) because internet in Europe is pretty good.

When I went back home to Russia for few weeks I had 140-160ms latency from St. Petersburg to my realm (again wich is hosted in LA, so route to it goes like Russia->Germany->England->East Coast->West Coast), if you will be in western Europe (UK/Germany/France) your connection might be even better, just depends on ISP and if you will be on Fiber/Cable or on ADSL.

So playable for questing and 5 mans

My old GM used to play from all over the world when he was on business, including the US, on our EU server and was able to raid without latency issues.

His account was originally US but he managed to migrate it to EU servers by contacting Blizzard, no idea what the cost was though (and I believe it was in vanilla/early TBC he did this)

I used to play with a guy from the Netherlands on a PST server. He did quite well, and was always near the top of the meters as a mage in our progression raids, and was very capable playing as a shaman healer on our alt raids. He just said it was a matter of getting used to the latency. He never PvPed, so I don't know how that end of the game would hold up.

Playable yes, but do you really enjoy it ? Personnaly past 120ms I don't enjoy it much (playing usually with 24ms on french server)

You are spoiled :P My latency is usually about 300 - 400 MS these days but back when I first signed up for WoW and was on a different ISP I used to get latency between 700 - 800 MS. It never ruined my enjoyment of the game and still dosn't. While I admit I'm a rubbish DPS due to not having the best latency it dosn't stop me from playing and enjoying the game. I just heal or tank instead. My latency has never caused a wipe due to taking too long to taunt/get a heal off

As others have mentioned, oceanic realms is a safe bet to play on from Europe. Done it myself with around 50-120ms, totally playable.

Holy Nekro! The question is still relevant so I' m chiming in anyway. XD
I have played US West coast realms since Vanilla from Germany. I average 160 MS. Totally playable as Melee, slightly less so for casting classes.
