I guess your statement is false, learning encounters by heart and bashing target dummies to test rotations do not tranlate well into PvP at all.
Of course, you're statement is true, if "pretty well" means sub 1800..
You should consider that the insane dmg from the hero pve weapons/trinkets can easily catapult you to about 2k-2,2k rating
