Max lvl bear shaman with some dungeon tier on him
Only the last levels were tough and had to grind on some houses in the city, but overall it was fairly easy to level, sure the initial part was much better but still..i remember WOW in the begining, no quest objectives, quest items in the world didnt sparkle you had to mouseover the entire area upclose, obscure quest lines..walking walking walking..

Problem was the pvp imbalances, lack of interest in farming shit to build castles and the pve content was too buggy and dull
Combat was fun and refreshing, kinda like a fighting game but beautiful arid barbarian world - mmo
Not cartoonish, i loved it while it lasted...but like warhammer, people ding ..fiddle around a bit and that`s it...back to wow

To the above poster, who said it was hard to level?

It was boring, buggy and a mess to level. That does not mean hard.

The article i reas wasnt predicting the end of star wars it was reporting how the lost over 1 million subscribers after the first 60 days and since then new subs arent keeping pace with people quiting.

And does this article have any proof whatsoever regarding how many subs TOR may have or has not lost?

I liked leveling up in AoC very much. What was the problem ...

    1) The crafting was retarded. There is no other way to say it. One look at it and you knew it was broken.
    2) The pvp was raids of players roaming one map.
    3) The PvE raids were buggy as hell.

My part in this story has been decided. And I will play it well.

I didn`t find that at all
And it does mean hard, if quests are bogus, unclear, you have to cross continents for diferent items, people kill you left and right (specially with no faction system) leveling can become hard.
It only became boring close to the end as there were insuficient quests to ding

    Any thoughts ?
It had awful game engine, and there was nothing good about most of the animations. It was filled with bugs. There was not enough content in the game when it was released, not end game nor leveling content. Nobody wants to GRIND their way up in todays MMORPG.

i played AoC from release ... but i never bought play time, only wasted the 30 days that come along if you buy the game ...

Played a conquerer til lvl 40 ... from lvl 30 on it was only grinding because there were no more quests ... (the game wasn't finished ...)
couple months later some friends who continued playing after the first 30 days told me some storys about the raids ... i'll summarize it for you, but it's only storys, so i cannot guarantee that it's really true ...

1.) raids without a conquerer were impossible ... conquerers caused - with their auras - constant healing to other people, constant regenration of stamina and mana and and and ... without a conquerer the group would run oom after couple of seconds in the fight ...
2.) boss fights were darn boring ... since melee dd's couldn't do dmg while moving (they had to do their direction buttons) most of the fights were stationary ... tank and spank ...

that's pretty much i can remember now.

On release I loved the game up untill about level 30, then things seemed to fall apart for me. I can't remember exactly why (i'm a completest too so thats rare for me)

Why caused age of conan to fail
here is my 2 cents worth on this quote, some may understand my view while others see it differently .

AoC failed not because of its design , think back to all the other MMOs that came out after wow did . People got comfortable with accepting what wow was so when the game gone stale to players they would jump ship to the next MMO looking for exciting new feeling like they had with wow . Only to discover each game is different so within a month to a year people jump back into wow or the other new MMO . and they rinse and repeated it still today.

for example LOTRO,Aion,WHO,and somewhat Rift to name just a handfull of games that had subscriptions jump while wows declined to have wows jump back a bit and decline again . i believe people are unhappy with blizzards direction but happy with how the game plays but cant find it anywhere else so far.

I may have player AOC for a week, but I eventually realized that I had a max level toon in WoW and it was the same thing. Kill stuff, quest level, get loot, only thing I saw different in AOC was females with their tits hanging out.

Actually, WOW came along into a firmly entrenched market place, took the undisputed king of the hill (in the West at least) that had already been out for 5 years, held it by the nose and kicked the shit out of it.

Bullet point for point it was superior to and improved on EverQuest in every single way. That's why it experienced constant growth for the first 6 years. SWTOR flatlined from release, and tbh I'm going to call now that the graph trends DOWN from release once we get the end of quarter figures next month. I certainly don't think it is going to experience any growth.

Personally it felt like playing in a beta version after the first leveling zone and that was a major part of the failure in aoc.

Those two were basically only things that worked in the game. Derp is strong in this post.

What really "killed" the game was that it was literally unfinished in every way possible. There were stats that had no purpose at all, the stats that had purpose didn't work properly. Some stats were so OP it was silly and some so useless you cursed every time gear had even a bit of it.

Beyond level 20 zones, the game had very minimal amounts of content to help players progress forward, the questing between 30-50 was just facepalm worthy because you mostly had to grind due to lack of questing (which they addressed way too late with new zone/quests for that level range) Also there was almoust no end game at all implemented at release and the little it had was once again, broken so bad it was mostly undoable.

It was just overall unfinished game and that's what "killed" it, even if it had so much potential and the first 25 levels were extremely fun. Nowdays it's much better since they have had years time to polish and add new content.

I played it, got to max level really fast, didn't have anything fun to do and quit.

they wanted to make a big splash, and they did that well, but the rest was less involved

Nearly all of its problems were related to launch:

    1) Billed itself as a PvP game with exciting melee content. However, PvP was extremely unbalanced and half the class's melee combos were broken.
    2) Almost zero content after Tortage. Pre and Post Tortage felt like two separate games.

These were the two biggest killers. By the time the problems were addressed, the player majority had already fled in droves. I still go back to it once every couple of years and level my character for a bit; it's still fun, honestly, but not worth a subscription. This thread reminded me that it has an F2P option...might have to look into that while waiting for D3/WoW/GW2

Like other have said, the 20 first levels were great. After that it felt like too much of a grind.

Also there were some broken promises and stuff, they fired some high-up guy because of it.
