Yeah, I'd kinda bet on these unstable ones where a whole mess of things are added/strings changed/values modified/ect. Here's hoping we just don't have to wait until the next one to fix the ones now while introducing it's own...

set bonuses are always boring to start with during new expansions, they get better in later patches.

It's unfortunate that some people don't "get" the Mage set. This is a roleplaying game!

The basic structure is obviously based on the cliche black mage garb.
The set makes use of the Third Eye of Dalaran, which apparently heightens insight and focus. Note that the three main eyes on the set are coloured after the three schools of magic that mages use.
The actual glowing eyes of different colours has ties to real-world myths stating that it shows a person has innate power.
Finally, the crystals seem be "crystals of power" (think Final Fantasy), since they are also coloured after the schools of magic. Possibly used to increase or focus their magic power.

Nerdy? Definitely.
Bad mage set? Far from it.

What is there to get about a set that looks terrible?

Update: - We had a pretty huge bug in our class changes that caused a bunch of errors. This is now fixed, sorry for the scare/inconvenience! ><
