I am the one who knocks ... because I need your permission to enter.
Tonight stream at 19:00 about this change, I hope they can show what's in the crown shop.
Hopefully the crown shop also won't be in the ui but instead be bound to a npc.
I will wait with my ultimate verdict till I have seen what's in there, I do not mind the b2p + dlc thingie though.
new zones + quests for money... sounds... bad...

Just saw the news about this and I thought this cant be happening....
Only thing that killed my interest for this game now is subscription required for "Access to all downloadable content for the duration of membership" along with the switch for PS+ required... just no
Edit: Like to add since previous couple posts about expecting to buy new content... while Zenimax still/should be planning for monthly content but this means they can't simply release a portion of a new zone each monthly content (aka craglorn) anymore... even worse to think in order to access the Imperial city you have to be subscribed (probably thinking... Vyn thats incredible stupid of you for typing that, of course they wont do that.... it could happen)... it really comes down to the restriction they put
Not to mention this game so encourages going solo rather grouping (especially with all that rework of the veteran rank stuff)... I'm sure we play MMOs for group content
Not only have to deal with each platform on their own server... now even further alienating the playerbase when they reach the content that requires membership... dont get me wrong this game does have alot of content but its just the thought you're going to hit a payment wall eventually if you want to stay current on content/gear
Suppose this why retailers pulled the game and 1.6 is no where in sight... also why they haven't really bothered with their current micro-transaction store
I've heard GW2 has gone this route sorta at start till season 2 content where you have to buy content (and/or was it have to log in the duration to get it free?) but I abandon that game a year after release...
Suppose I will make my last decision rather to get it or not closer to that launch date (hopefully a beta still coming out for consoles)
Just my opinions/impressions... ESO forums is being beaten to death... poor mods

well at least I can still pay a sub if I want to should be interesting where this goes.
People cry for a game to go free to play, game goes free to play people cry. It is such a vicious cycle. @_@
You cannot get crowns if you don't buy them / are not subbed. So people that aren't subbed will not get any new content after update 6, till they buy it. It's not a bad system at all.
This means they have to make sure content is released fast ánd isn't buggy and broken. Besides that this will also mean they won't place too much effort into the crown shop (or atleast, not as much as other mmo's) because these dlc's will be where they can make the most money from.
Overall not a bad system, it has plenty of checks and balances missing in every other f2p mmo.
I guess them pulling stock/time cards was signaling a change, just a B2P rather than a F2P change, which is great.
Honestly, I think this is the best move for the game and what it should have been to begin with. I'm definitely going to be checking it out now (hopefully I can score a copy on-sale between now and launch!) and will play casually at the very least.
Honestly though, I will never get the negative reaction from fans to a business model change and how it "ruins" a game. I mean, I was a pretty huge Rift fanboy for a while and I was actually excited for the F2P change, even if I was planning on continuing to sub. I think the game has declined a bit due to reasons entirely divorced from the business model (mainly Trion shitting the bed in general and that in turn impacting the rest of its products), but it's still a fantastic game regardless of the business model. I don't see why things would be any different with ESO.
Oh well, I'm excited. Fantastic news. Very much looking forward to June, now.
The price for the game is still very real, so no, you're wrong, again.
This is honestly great news. LOTR:O, Rift, GW2, plenty of games have succeeded without straight up sub fees and gotten better for it. Look at it this way; if you haven't played the game before you can buy a cheap copy now for $20 and wait til March 17th to activate it then spend as much time as you want leveling without having to worry about DLC or anything until you decide if you really like it and want to commit.
$70? It's $23 on Amazon.

you just have to log in during the time it was active and that was just for the personal story content. the extra zone content and the open world stuff you can get no matter when you log in
on topic: I think it's a smart move to go buy to play with an optional subscription model. I don't see a downside here really.
Interesting change for ESO, I think! I'm glad that a subscription is still being kept in some form so I can continue to support the company and the game, and I quite like that the box price is remaining so that there's revenue from every player. I'll definitely sub to ESO plus when I'm not playing WoW I think, so I can access the new zones and such. Quite a few of my friends have a lot of interest in playing now as well, so that's really great too!
I think it's fair. They can buy the DLC permanently if they want, or pay a subscription and get it for as long as they're subscribed. Anyone who doesn't want to pay beyond the box price is free to just play the base game, like Skyrim or Oblivion or any other game with DLC.
