I imagine there has to be a way of getting the race in game though. If it is only by a paywall, yeah that doesn't sit well.
So whats this im hearing about Molag Bal being the king of rap? I thought that was Tupac

Elder Scrolls has never been static, Stormclock supporting Nords have Argorian and even Elven stewards and members of their courts. Altmer thrive in Wildhelm capital of the Stormclock rebellion. A High elf ruled the elder council after Martin sacrificed himself in Oblivion and effectively ruled the empire of humans.
Its not like in wow where alliances never really change and racial tensions are always static. Even at the smallest of levels.

If any race can play any faction, why are factions still a thing? "We're the Aldmeri Dominion and we hate Nords and are locked in a bitter war with them so Nords should come join our ranks!"
This is the second era and well... hide yo kids hide yo wife cause Molag Bal be knocking down your doors! Your character is YOUR character. There is an over arcing story that needs the factions, but anyone who is deemed worthy can join if they are worthy.
Maybe your Nord was raised by Elves? Maybe your elf was poor, but there was a nice Imperial who helped ya out.

There's nothing extreme about it - that is the definition of a paywall plain and simple. And you're exactly right, EVERYTHING that is in Deluxe/Collectors Editions that are only available by paying more money is behind a paywall. The thing is, people like me consider having a race behind a paywall to be crossing the line on what is acceptable to be paywalled behind a CE or Deluxe edition of an mmo. I don't care if a mount or a cosmetic cloak or a vanity pet is paywalled behind a CE. I do care if a playable race is.
If you don't care that a race is paywalled into a CE that's fine, you're entitled to your opinion. But do you know how silly YOU sound trying to pidgeon hole the word paywall into "character progression" to further defend your opinion and agenda? You're trying to argue with the definition of a word, and it kind of smells like fanboism to be honest.

You need to not think of Elder scrolls factions as the same and Monolithic as Wows factions. Individual choice trumps born into alliances.
It may help to have the factions, but they serve as a base. It is just like my Alter joining the Imperial Legion or my Dunmer joining the Stormcloaks in Skyrim
My choice, the game must accept it if it is offered. I would be more upset if it was not offered. TES was never about limits.
If you had nords telling you you're right with "elves ruling Tamriel" and fighting for you then that certainly gives a sign to the other factions. As if you have other races supporting you aswell then that will strengthen the legitimacy of your faction as a whole. You need the support of the people after all.
Besides that, you could also be a mercenary or simple cannon fodder, most factions won't care much if you want to fight for them and make it more likely for them to win.

I think that would make it ok if that were the case, being able to obtain in game that is. BUT, I don't think that will be the case and I have 3 reasons why:
1. On their website faq it says specifically that after release, if you want the CE bonus items, you can then purchase them in their store.
2. On their "Ask us Anything" when they were talking about the Imperial race, that would have been their perfect opportunity to hint or say something about being able to obtain them in game to calm down the masses. But they said nothing like that, and only defended their decision to have them only accessible through the CE and later through purchase.
3. On the unboxing video, the loremaster emphatically states "the only way to play an Imperial is to buy the CE."
So I really don't think the plan is to have them unlockable in game. Will that change though with the backlash? Hopefully.
As much as the CE seems nice,I'm still not convinced to actually play the game itself...

Lots of players are just waiting the NDA to lift before spending money. Cant blame them for that.
