[Books] Book Recommendation? (japanese school life)

Hey,
I was searching for a book (or two), which are generally about school life and fantasie (myths, supernatural, etc...) . I'm also really interested in japanese culture, so a book about a japanese school life would be perfect. I'm watching "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" right now and I like it VERY much, so maybe something in that direction. I would appreciate all kind of help to find such a book.

The only Japanese book I have read based on school life, follows a student at university level in the 60s. Murakami's Norwegian Wood. It's an amazing book but a real fucking downer at times. It describes a student's life in Japan during those times pretty vividly, but it's mainly about love and loss. Bittersweet and captivating, I'd recommend it if you don't mind sad stuff.
