What Server Should I Roll On?

First off, I currently have a fairly geared 50 Guardian tank on The Ebon Hawk that I'm hoping to move, pending character transfers. I rolled on The Ebon Hawk for some friends on launch, who have since practically stopped playing. Since it's an RP server, finding a solid PvE guild has been a challenge.

Should I re-roll on a new server, such as Jedi Council, and if so, are any guilds recruiting?

The following link is the server status and it's time sensitive so look at peak times for the time you play. Jedi Council at the time of this message is heavy so that's a safe bet. An other option is maybe to wait until the server transfers to kick in.

Just be patient right now and wait for the character transfers. Here's the kicker though, don't transfer on the first day. Instead wait 2-3 days and see where everyone else is flocking to, that way you don't end up transferring to another dead server.

I said a similar thing on another forum and got flamed by lots of people who thought it would be a massive scrammble on day one.
I also think it could end up a bit of a waiting game, if lots of the player base has the same idea of waiting too see where others are going it could end up a case of us all waiting to see who blinks first.

Its my understanding that there wont be a choice in the matter. You will be told that your server has free transfers to a given server. If they allowed people to choose which server they move to then the busy servers would become unplayable and that would solve nothing. The only problem that the current model doesn't sort is allowing people with multiple characters spread accross servers to consoladate them into one legacy/server.

“Therefore, we made the decision to strictly limit the initial phase of the Character Transfer Service to only allow transfers from selected groups of origin servers (where you're moving a character from) to selected individual destination servers (where you choose to move a character to) based on the player populations of the origin and destination servers. In some cases, a large number of origin servers will be eligible to move to a single destination server. In others, very few origin servers will be transferring to existing high population destination servers. Remember, the goal here is to push almost every destination server to an active population that's higher.”

Yep, I misread “selected individual destination servers” as “selected group of destination servers”....that’s what I get for skim reading.
    I thought it was going to be that you could move from low pop servers A, B, C, D & E to low/medium pop server F, G or H. Essentially filling up F, G and H with people from A, B, C, D & E.
So I thought people would wait on their current server until they could see which server (F,G or H) was getting the highest number of people, causing a bit of a standoff.
Obviously this will not be the case with only one destination server to ‘chose’ from, so it will be like a cavalry charge then lol.

If you mean Jedi Covenant, that is where I play. Coincidentally I am also a Guardian tank. You will find that, as a tank, it is very easy to get into FP groups, but almost impossible to find a guild that needs you.

Many many guilds are recruiting, mostly DPS, some healers. For some reason everyone who goes there seems to create their own guild instead of joining an established one.

My guild is, as far as I know, currently the only guild progressing through hard mode Denova and not having to pug to fill spots. We are recruiting to try to get back up to 16 mans. We need a bunch of DPS, and a couple healers.

You do realize that the free transfers starting on the 12th will be targeted? As in, many origin servers will have a single destination server which will be chosen by Bioware.

Yeah, at the time of my post I wasn't thinking of them doing that. I was thinking more of a "Here's a list, pick a server" kind of format.

Because BioWare still refuses to add cross server anything, even though every server but 2 are dead, you have 2 options. Fatman for PvP or Jedi Covenant for PvE.

That's like saying Chicago is dead as it doesn't have the same population as NYC...

There are several good servers...there was a list, let me see if I can find it.

    EDIT:

    Found it http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...-20-US-Servers

I play on The Ebon Hand (US #6) and we aren't dead...I always see people running around and I alt alot (both sides)
And I love seeing the same people in PvP...Like I know instantly who to attack or who to avoid

I play on Jedi Covenant and its listed as #2. Before I started playing D3 there was never less than 160 people in Fleet usually on both sides. Now that number is around 110 and sometimes I will log in around 8-9pm, on my days off, so prime time and see even less . The game is bleeding worse than a hemophiliac.

Fleet populations is really not a good way to judge the population of a server. I play on Jedi Covenant and I don't recall ever see'ing fewer than 135 people on in the fleet. However, I also don't tend to stand around on the fleet looking at how many people are there. The most time that I spend on fleet is when I am doing ops and that is only waiting before/if we wiped on something. Generally I am off doing dailies, doing other random things on other planets, or leveling alts on other planets.

My point mainly is it's a bit erroneous to conclude if people aren't on the fleet then they are quitting the game.

Completely false. I play on Jedi Covenant and the Republic fleet has been hovering around 200 every night for the last week or so. Last night we were listed as full on the realm status page.

Completely false...I play on Jedi Covenant on both sides and the fleet was barely over 100 all weekend. It is a great server and is starting to surge again, but please get your 'facts' factual. Most people are leveling alts so the lowbie places are more full.

This is testament to what arlee said about not using fleet pops as a measurement. It's a guesstimate, not hard numbers.

My rule of thumb...go to Quesh

If there is ANYONE there...you have a decent pop server

    The most populated one.

The point of these transfers is to make multiple servers that are like the Fatman so there will be no need for cross-server capabilities.
