Most people who hate dubstep don't realize that they haven't listened to dubstep. The stuff that hits the radio is pejoratively called "brostep." Its synonymous in form with artists like Pitbull, LMFAO, etc who create club music. It's not music you listen to, its music you dance/drink/party to. It is not music you can have an intelligent conversation over or about. Its fleeting and in-the-moment.
If you want to listen to what dubstep is, by actual defintion, head over to places like r/realdubstep/ and get a sampling. That is the stuff that is technically impressive, built on solid music theory, and isn't just noise. Basically, mainstream dubstep is just the electronic equivalent to pop music. There is nothing wrong with it for what it is, but it isn't excellent (in the original sense of the word) either.
