I feel this sums up most of the changes in PoE2. Need to sell items? Here are 5 different vendors/interfaces/crafting tables. Need to refill your flasks? Walk over here and click this thing. Want to end-game? Check out all these hoops you get to jump through! Want to craft? LOLOLOL j/k, just gamble instead.

Yeah, why did they make all this a massive pain in the ass?

What? PoE2 team trying to relearn what PoE1 fixed 5 years ago? Say it ain't so.

I feel like the next few major patches are just going to be re-posts of PoE1 patches from the past few years.

Because it's cool to walk over to the well to fill your flasks instead of having them automatically refilled when you get to town! It's just another chore on the checklist to remember to do, don't you like friction?

Good news: Phrecia live 'til April 23. Afterwards they'll add it to private leagues for a month and those will be free for up to 20K players per event. Hopefully you can add some additional silly mods to it. I'm kinda over kingsmarch tho. Boats are still great at least, but it's just so tedious at this point.

Bad news: 3.26 targeting June. Holy 11 month settlers league, batman.

Yeah, I think GGG are eating some pretty big humble-pie about their assessment of their own abilities in light of how confident they sounded about being able to avoid all these kinds of issues with PoE2 given all their experience with PoE1. At least I hope so.

I feel confident they could have done it if they hadn't just completely abandoned PoE1 in order to rush out an unfinished PoE2...

The only reason 3.26 is so far away is because they only just started working on it. We all knew this when they said back in jan/feb that they hadn't started work yet.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

All of GGG's ideas for towers have sucked. Most the community ideas for towers are even worse.

These towers are a dead idea.

  8. #16988
They should replace "Towers" with "Structures", and they should apply a choice of thematic buffs to the maps or characters in the area. Allowing these to buff the characters, would allow the player to push for harder maps. For example...

Archer's Tower: Projectiles split, Projectiles gain +1 chain, Increase accuracy
Arena: Increase chance of Rogue Exiles in the area, Increase weapon damage buffs, Increase defensive buffs
Fountain of Fortune: Increase number of Strongboxes in the area, Increase item rarity, Increase gold drops
Library of Enlightenment: Buff to skills, Increase XP, One free death with no XP loss
    Marletto Tower: Defensive buffs
Mercenary Camp: Increases number of Bloodlines in the area, choose a Sign to be applied to you (Tasalio, Ngamahu, Valako)
Necromancer's Crypt: Increases the number of Abysses in the area, Buffs minions, Increases spirit
Oasis: Increase health, mana, energy shield regen
Wizard's Tower: Improve resistances, bypass resistances, increase elemental damage (from all sources)

Since you choose one buff per Structure, the player can choose to either buff maps with a League mechanic or apply a buff to their character. Not all character buffs would be equal to all characters, which would be by design; a Necromancer's Crypt may not be a good buff for a Grenadier. Not all Structures would need be tied to League Mechanic, and some structures may have other special functions:

Pillar of Eyes: Reveals all Structures in a large radius
Portal of Glory: Links to another random Portal of Glory on the Atlas Map, allowing you to travel between the two

Some Structures could apply a debuff in an area until cleared:

Altar of Fire/Frost/Lightning: Areas have plentiful Burning/Frozen/Shocked Ground
Cursed Temple: Structure Buffs are negated
Tomb of Curses: Curses applied to you do not expire

Additionally, Structures could reveal hidden maps in the area. This would guarantee a minimum number of maps with the applied League mechanic, since it could be possible to complete most maps in an area near a Structure before completing the Structure.

Each new League mechanic could be tied to a new Structure or two, making it easy to get them out there. Additionally, adding a new meta-game to the end game could be done with Structures as well, such as clearing out Mines, Laboratories, Crystal Caverns, Sawmills, etc. to gain Resources. You could even have a Structure that drops a specific item that can be used in another Structure, such as getting a key for a Gate to unlock a new section of the Atlas map.

Yes, I've been playing some HOMM3 lately.

With a bit of tweaking, I think the idol system can exist alongside rhe normal atlas.

The ability and degree to which you can juice maps with the idols is fucking insane. I just ran a t16 that had to be the juicest map I have run in ages. I use a strict loot filter as well. This was just obscene.

I'll admit, as someone that usually gets bored before I get to the red maps, I do like the Idol mechanics. Its nice to be able to more easily tailor the end game to the types of content I enjoy playing, without having to deal with the mechanics I don't care for.

Weirdly it's a bit of the reverse for me. I've got a collection of idols building (i haven't traded for them) but just nothing really...good. The mods are too mixed up and I'm missing some great atlas bonuses while not being able to block some mechanics I don't like and also having some content I don't want spawning pretty frequently because it's on a few of my idols that have multiple other mods I want.

Still playing a fair bit because the kinetic blast of clustering dex/mana stacker build is pretty silly/fun, but lordy I'm tired of getting wholly unsupported/unbuffed legions and blights spawning all the damned time : (

I'm running with a bunch of Abyss and Bestiary mods, with Exiles enabled, and having a blast. Though I have ran into a Soul Eater Beast during an Abyss on more than one occasion in which they became too strong to kill, so they just chased me through the rest of the map. LOL I'm running with around two dozen minions, so its hard for me to see the Soul Eater effect until its too late. LOL

Though, I think part of the issue is that my 6L Phantasms had Minion Life instead of Minion Damage by mistake. I caught the error when I hit L76. /epic facepalm.

Finally tried out the new PoE1 event, some interesting ideas they have / had that they never used or tried out. I honestly hope they keep doing this type of stuff in the future - instead doing internal tests only they open up ideas for future changes / additions through events. Would help avoid pain points that crop up during release weeks / months during a new league.

Playing this though reminds me how crazy they could be making some passive tree changes and they don’t. I need to keep trying new things to see what kinda fun I’ll have. I just struggle to keep clearing the campaign after my first 2 characters lol. Really wish we could map from level 1 on alts after beating the campaign once.

You'd get more mileage out of the idols if you traded away the mechanics you are not running. Even blue/yellow 1x1 are better than having a better idol with a mechanic you dislike or run poorly from a QOL POV. It is a bit like cropse trading, but once you get the mechanics locked in (the multiple pages help a lot), have the void stones and so on, then both the top end of quant/qual in maps and difficulty are huge.

Things like breach, ritual, abyss, and blight are more powerful than normal. Expedition/Shrines is kinda middle ground, and naturally. There are a lot of Anarchy and Expo nodes on the old atlas to juice those.

Heist and Betrayal are kinda good in this event. Connected map and up-tier idols are so good.

Man, trade is fucking busted, I forgot how easy it is to get upgrades. A few divines for a Massive Thread of Hope with -11 and somehow a fucking reduced ignite duration corrupt (down to 80% so near immunity rofl), traded for some cheap-ish other upgrades. Thread of Hope is yuge, give access to so much good shit for mana/dex kinetic bolt of clustering whisperer, even the node that gives you minion attack speed is pretty huge and opens up the ability for you to craft it on your weapon for double attack speed, baby. Found out some of the "meh" gear I was replacing with more specific things, a 10c ring I bought and yolo-annulled a dogshit all-attributes roll off of is now probably like an 8 divine ring since I slammed T1 mana onto it (T1 life, mana, accuracy, T2 dex, crafted ele/chaos res, open prefix still).

I should look into upgrading my garbo weapon/chest at some point. This is just silly.

  16. #16996
I bought a near-perfect Anathema for 20c. The ES was like 3 under cap.

So Phrecia is my first experience with settlers and I love it but if it goes core I really hope they make gold more efficient to acquire and maybe offer some auto-management options for the idle stuff.

They did lower the upkeep cost. It's just that people push the town development faster than they are earning GP.

When clearing maps with a few voidstones, you will walk out of a map with at least 15-20k gold. If I run a juicy gauntlet of maps, it's a few +100k gold.

People really shouldn't have like level 6 farms, level 5 mining, level 3 shipping, and so on when they are still in early mapping. Definitely not disenchanting and mapping.

TBF the entire poe2 map system sucks right now. I've literally never run so many useless maps in a row at the 100+ hour mark. And I run them just to get to the next thing

And on that note endlessly scrolling in any given direction just isn't fun when the information is presented like this.

Delve is fine (also basically nobody does delve) but the way it presents it's endless scrolling is "fine"

I hate everything about poe2 maps though, towers, procedural generation, all of it

Yeah, the mods are *really* mixed; and I'd say that's probably my only real complaint. For the longest time, all of my really good Idols also had an increased chance of Jun, and I *hate* Betrayal. The plus side is that I quickly got all of my recipe unlocks, and it didn't take long before I was able to replace most of those Idols.
