This is so exciting. I hope Druid isn't stupid or needlessly complex. I just wanna run around as a wolf (on two legs) with a whirlwind around me.

    Just gimmie the wolf, Johnathan.

Rolling Magma Wyvern is the play, obviously.

This is a lot of combo skills. I have to make it rain, to water the plants, to shock the white mob? What is this.

    INCURSION!

Okay, now do that in POE1. Why am I carrying all this shit with me in POE1?

Still not interesting in actually playing POE2, but I am happy there giving Atziri such a big fanfare as I really love her character.
Evil only wins when it spreads. It can cause destruction, it can cause death—but those are consequences of its nature, not its victory. Not its goal. The danger of evil, the purpose of evil, is that it causes those who would oppose it to become evil also.

lmao this is the best shit in poe

abusing a ton of random, largely niche mechanics and interactions to come up with a bonkers but somehow functional build

times like this i sometimes do wish I played trade so I had access to all these weirdo replica uniques and shit i'll never farm because fuck heist (even without needing to level up heist dudes)

This is still one of the best games I have ever played. Perfectly Path of Exile.

Because I've never seen him before, Neversink himself! PoE would be unplayable without this man.

I might give this a watch later, but just sharing in case anyone might be interested. The folks that make the community tools are all rad as hell.

TIL - Harvest respects metamods to a point. Should have checked craft of exile. Locked prefix on a chest with T1 flat/% ES trying to get some lightning res suffix, filled the open prefix in the process. But on the bright side filled it with T1 hybrid flat ES/mana which wasn't what I wanted (flat mana preferably) but is darned close, and gives me a nice little 1100ES chest.

Brings me to a combined over 10K life/ES. Still have some work to do plus getting some more unique jewels, but damn skippy this Cold Snap of Power build is coming together nicely.

The very early days of POE2 were only bearable without Neversink and POB due to the newness of POE2. Playing POE1 and 2 without filterblade is a horrible experience.

Harvestcrafting fully respects metamods, but Prefixes Cannot Be Changed always just protects existing prefixes; it never prevents new prefixes being added. Given you have no way to guarantee a Mana mod outside of crafting Mana at the end, that's a pretty good outcome!

Been away for a while, have they fixed or even started to address the disparity between the first half of the game and the latter half of the game?

    Fixed what? What disparity?

What do you mean by first half of the game; Campaign/endgame?

I would say once you start getting into your 40s or 50s is when things start to shift. Where the first half of the game has methodical, tactical gameplay with actual mechanics you need to pay attention to, and the endgame is a senseless button masher. Its like starting a game of Dark Souls then finding yourself playing Dynasty Warriors halfway through the game, or hopping into a game of Soul Calibur II only to find out it becomes Smash Bros.

I absolutely adore the 1st half of the game, but the second half of the game becomes absurdly boring and, dare I say, generic. I think I've reached Maps on exactly one character, because I can't be bothered to press forward on my other characters. And while I do enjoy those characters, knowing that I'm going to abandon each and every one of them by the time I get to Maps kills any desire to play. The first half of the game brings something fresh and interesting to the genre, and the designers that put that together are to be commended. The second half just...throws all of that out.

Edit: I don't have this issue with PoE1, because from the start you're playing a standard ARPG. With PoE2, they added much more nuanced mechanics that it feels very different from other ARPGs. As such, you sort of get into a groove with your character, and then they change the song and there is no more tempo, and it feels like you're playing something different on a different character, even though most of what they are doing is the same. Hopefully that helps explain my thoughts a bit better.

    Okay, that is more clear.

Uh, no. Its still like that. Less slow/methodical in campaign actually. They did a lot to speed up non-endgame play with sprinting, far more robust crafting, less mob density and now there are actual league mechanics.

Endgame is still unfinished. There are some tweaks to make it less a pain in the ass to run maps. Towers are gone, kinda.

Endgame update is scheduled for next patch. But it still sucks as of today. Tomorrow, who knows.

Although GGG have said several times it is the intention that as players progress in the endgame, the game gets faster. GGG even showcased builds that trivialize/speed run the content on their build of rhe week series.

Hopefully that helps explain my thoughts a bit better.
It does. However, you may be disappointed ultimately. GGG said it is not their intent to make a necessarily slow game. They just thought more layered mechanics are/were neat and "fun" as recently as the live stream last week.

Johnathan, Rory, Mark, and Chris all at varying points said "You will be zoomy in the endgame." on stream.

Back when Chris was still with GGG, he and Johnathan specifically pointed to Mark and said, "He is the reason why POE is zoomy. Don't worry, guys. You wont be slow."

The layered mechanics and animation rigging I think have put a false perception in player's minds about the game.

But you could have shield charged, blinked, tailwinded, no-slow-200%-MS , flickered, etc in POE2 since 0.1 same as POE1. We just had fewer crafting options and no Quicksilvers in POE2 at the start.

OK. At least they have finally decided which way to go. I don't mind if they go zoomy, so long as its zoomy from the get go; after all, I have a few thousand hours in PoE1. All of those early game mechanics laid the foundation for something different, then they threw those mechanics out halfway through the game, which is what made the game feel bad/odd/frustrating to me. Maybe I'll try again after a few major updates and see if they can get that fixed up.

Hopefully someone will take that early game design and create an APRG that nurtures that kind of gameplay. It was truly a breath of fresh air in a genre that hasn't really changed much in 25 years.

0.1 and 0.2 definitely were slower-paced than POE1's early campaign. However, as I said, there was indeed a matter of access. Crafting was minimal, no league mechanics, no sprint, low drop rates, and so on. The people playing zoomy builds in 0.1 and 0.2 were doing so because they finally got what they needed by the endgame. Not necessarily because it was impossible or unintended for POE2 to be played that way.

0.3 had basically deterministic crafting. So you were gambling for MS boots and a rune just to run from exit to exit. And frankly, you are kinda slow in POE1 early game without the crafting. People are just more familiar with what to do early game in POE. Plus, we have the plethora of drops & currency to speed up as one's know-how allows in POE1 vs. POE2.

POE2 is coming along, but let's face it, it's gonna be years before POE2 is filled out. Play standard league in POE2 right now and just run to the cemetery- the game is BARE.
