We had a surge protector on the TV which serves as the monitor, and a battery backup on the computer itself. Problem is the surge protector failed on the TV and traveled through the HDMI cable to the computer, so the battery backup was useless because the surge didn't come from the power cable, but from said HDMI cable.

Possible, but I'd have to get Mr. Eternal to look into it. It was his surge protector, and I don't know how long he's had it. Most warranties on surge protectors only last 1-3 years from what I've seen.

I'm going to stick my neck on the line and say that they blew their cover on the Heimer remake intentionally, possibly to draw any possible attention away from anything else. Karma will get the same treatment soon.
