But then British males above 7(?) were made to practice drawing a longbow every Sunday after church. And so began our domination on the battlefields until Anglo-German Naval Race of early 1900. ( If we ignore Castillon and that whole America farce)

The rude gesture "flipping the bird," or raising one's middle finger, originated with English longbowmen. Longbowmen captured by the French at the time would have their middle fingers cut off, pretty much ruining their ability to use a bow. In response, prior to a volley, the longbowmen would show off to the French their in-tact middle digit, then proceed to feather them quite thoroughly.
Actually, I didn't know this and always wondered why...

Mongolian (or maybe Hunnic, pretty sure Mongolian) horse archers actually had a longer range of fire than the longbowmen and predated them by over a 1000 years. Pretty sure they invented the Thumb Ring too, and employed tactics not seen again for centuries.

Genghis Khan, you are my hero.

True, but a considerable part of the Mongolian range is theorized to have come from firing from horseback. They also used a different material for their bows that gave it a bit more "umph." The British longbow had the greatest range of any stationary archer.

I was talking about trigger releases for bows.

Plus crossbows are lame. They're only legal to hunt with if you are disabled.

Just a tip, if you ever go to the Middle east don't say that. You may not be well received.
Also did you know Genghis could well have been a ginger?

The likeability of Genghis Khan varies depending on what part of the Middle East you visit. Some revel him as a hero, others, a tyrant.
