Minecraft project problems

Me and my friend are recreating our flat in minecraft. Was wondering a few things that we cant really work out.

1: We dont like the look of glass as glass, was wondering if there is a way to make water act like glass? As in stationary like normal blocks.

2: We want a ceiling but we dont want to have ugly glowstone all around the place to emit light, is there any way to change the transparency of certain blocks?

Your best bet would be to look for a texture pack as, far as I know, none of the things you're asking about are possible :P

Maybe Redstone lamps is better http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Lamp ?
Im not sure about using water instead of glass have you tried glass panes ( http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Glass_Pane )instead of just normal glass blocks ?

Otherwise just get texture pack like Jade said.

Thanks for replies! I opted to make my ceiling out of Pistons.
They are solid and a similar colour to my ceiling in my flat, and they let light through to boot (thank you Wiki)! win win no mods or texture packs needed!

In the end went with ice blocks for the windows of the flat.

Will probably put a download of the map up online when im done but I doubt that many would be interested in a large scale version of where I live :>
