My friend broke 2 pins on his CPU. D:

So he bought a new CPU. Some AM3 one, unfortunately it doesn't fit the socket in his motherboard since its an AM2+. So what I'm looking for is a new motherboard that can fit an AM3 CPU and an older GPU since this current MB cant fit the new CPU.

Radeon 4550 GPU for an AMD processor 1g DDR2

    please help me help him.

    - If his motherboard has an AM2+ socket, then he can - at least physically - fit all current AMD CPUs on it (excluding the APUs). He probably has an AM2 board (without the +).
    - Graphics card is no problem, since all computers have PCIe slots since about 6-7 years. You can still fit one of the first PCIe cards into a brand-new mobo, or a brand-new video card into an old mobo.
    - The only slight problem would be RAM. If he wants to keep the RAM, then he needs an AM2+ board, since these are the only ones which still can use DDR2 ram in combination with the newer AM3 / AM3+ cpus. But these boards are always on the lower end in terms of features, so i wouldn't advise it. As RAM is pretty cheap, and the 1GB he has is very little in today's terms, he should just get himself a 2x2GB DDR3-1333 together with the new board.

Currently out of stock, but they can most likely be found somewhere else.

cheap. If he just needs a replacement.

    Decent, but still fairly cheap.

The AM3+ boards need to be coupled with new ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231253
Why do something simple, when there is a complicated way?
