Just trying to get a general consensus of what the game is like before I make the purchase. Please keep comments informative and don't bash the game although criticism is needed to get a true consensus.

Enjoying it very much.

Anyway, if you don't already see where I'm going with this, allow me to spell it out: the only meaningful MMORPG "endgame" -- i.e., something novel to do after the progression process is over -- is that of the sandbox.
I've only encountered a couple negatives so far, which I assume are related.
1) The 'Join' button does not always work.
2) Trying to get into AC with a group is a pain in the arse. I tried three seperate times yesterday and today, and was never able to do it.
3) We have at least 6 different worlds we are playing in WvWvW so far. It seems that every time they bring WvW down to work on it, it comes back with new enemies.
They all look like launch-related issues to me. If they get fixed I will be enjoying this game very very much.
Launch issue related to grouping, likely fixed by now (most recent patch) but haven't checked.
Also a launch issue related to grouping, fixed now.2) Trying to get into AC with a group is a pain in the arse. I tried three seperate times yesterday and today, and was never able to do it.
WvW is on a short rotation currently to sort out who should be fighting who. Basically, they don't want the best WvW server VS the worst WvW server for 2 weeks, so WvW only lasts ~a day per match currently, like they did in the betas.3) We have at least 6 different worlds we are playing in WvWvW so far. Ahh I didn't know that. We were about even in one match so my guild and I put in a bunch of time to get ahead, then we log back in this morning and we are playing a different server and getting absolutely destroyed, which was quite odd to see. It evened out by the time I logged off tonight, but it was extremely odd to see.
Having never played the first game, and pretty much just picking up GW2 because of how surprisingly disappointing TOR was, I've been genuinely surprised with how good it actually is.
Sir Robin, the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot.
Who had nearly fought the Dragon of Angnor.
Who had almost stood up to the vicious Chicken of Bristol.
And who had personally wet himself, at the Battle of Badon Hill.
Absolutely loving it, having such a blast playing with my friends
Couple bugs related to guilds, parties, and of course the trade broker and stuff. I still think they need to do something with the sPVP to let you play with your friends (outside of tourneys). I was also expecting guesting to be working from the get go, but if it becomes available shortly after the free transfers go away then it isn't a problem.
These are all fixable issues, and I am really enjoying it. I got super hyped on this game a few years back (when it was supposed to be released in like 2010). The hype died down a little for me and I think it landed at a perfect point. I like how you can just play and do whatever you want to do and you make progress. It'll be interesting to see how I feel when I reach 80 and have gone through most of the PVE content; I'm so used to instanced raiding now. Honestly I feel like GW2 would benefit from instanced raids, but the world event raids most certainly have an extremely epic feel.
I'm having a total blast, really. I love fighting with my elementalist.
My only problem is the many, many bugs. At least 4-5 bugged DEs in the sylvari starting area alone, plus the guild bugs, trade stuff not working, etc., but as long as it's only DEs and not the personal storyline or hearts, I'm not really bothered.
I'm happy with it! i just wish they'd open the forums
I love the game, other than the fact that you have few active damage abilities. You mostly rely on your auto attack to kill things.
Once they fix the bugs, it'll be the perfect game for me*.
*"for me" clearly states it is a personal thing. "Perfect game for me" in no way states or suggests it is the perfect game for everyone, everywhere, throughout history. This disclaimer brought to you by Toaster Inc. Legal Dept.
It's cool, though I'd wish the leveling in a zone didn't require you to search everything and look for dynamic events to reach the "level cap" of the zone.
Is it as epic as ArenaNet and their videos etc. made it out to be? Not really. Even so, its a solid game, that could use a little refinement here and there.. I got what I was realistically expecting.
My problems so far:
-The people exploiting the skelk in Geldallan fields
-A couple of bugs, some quest don't work
-No trading post
-Some areas of the game lack refinement... like for example some champion have retarded health or the scaling gets crazy, the low drop of fine materials. Things like that.
Besides that I have such a wonderful time !
There is an event there, a champion, that respawns extremely fast. He gives 1k+ XP every time you kill him, and he can be duoed. He can probably be soloed but I never tried. He respawned 4 times while I was doing a heart in the vicinity. I thought maybe it was bugged for our server or something but people I know on other servers have found the same thing.
