Monk or Paladin for a new healer to raiding..

    Hey guys,
For anyone playing/played the Beta what is the easier of the 2 for someone who wants to get into healing in raids?

My mate who has played a Rogue since launch has never ever played a healer but wants to switch to main healer in MoP and has asked what would be easier to learn on.

I said try Monk because everybody will be learning the new class but another mate reckons he should go Pally as they are pretty good for first time healers.

    Any thoughts?

(due to raid set up he won't really be able to play druid/sham/priest but maybe if we can move some people around)

    Cheers

Fine, fine. Honestly healing, to me, is kind of similar across the specs. I've healed as a priest, druid, and pally. Pally USED to be the easiest, but with the addition of holy power, and some other abilities, it's rotation has become a little more complicated. I can't comment on monk because I haven't played them, but they do look a small bit more complicated than current healers. I'd say pally between the two. But, you are going to have 90 levels to practice healing as a monk, so really you will have the time to get good at whatever you play.

if he is going to play healer for the first time monk is not recomended, you swapp between dmg and healing, also, it is also better if he starts a paladin because as far as i understand they are easy to heal as in 5man than most other classes

Agreed, It's a tad bit more difficult plus it's a brand new class so there isn't ALOT of information for it compared to others.

OP: I would say just try both out and play which ever you enjoy more and since your a first time healer I would recommend Paladin.

A little complicated? Spending 3 holy power on a nuke heal that is better than what pallies used to have is amazing. Holy pally is legit the most faceroll heal spec (as faceroll as healers get anyways).

OT: Go for holy pally. Beacon someone and watch the green numbers fly.

Definitly not monk if it is your first healer
Paladin is still mad fun and you get to top the meters all the time!

I only played a monk healer for a little bit in the beginning of the mop beta and blizz kept changing them quite a bit so I cant say how easy they are now, but imo out of all the healers the easiest would prob be druid/priest which you said he can't play because of the raid setup.

Personally he should just lvl as heals on any class, doing several dungeon finders each lvl. It also helps if you don't use heirlooms so your lower stats give you more of a challenge and also heal under geared tanks. Doing this should make you a pretty good healer no matter your class and you'll need less time adjusting to raid healing.

Also if he rolls a paladin now he can start learning early before mop comes out.

Ever since TBC paladins have been the easiest (PvE) healing class because of very boring but very effective and allround healing spells.

In Vanilla it was even easier but then we weren't considered being worthy of any role...

Lies. No class was better at cleansebotting.

Paladin. No hots to track beacon for healing tank always when healing someone else. Lots of nice CD (sacifice, bop, loh).

And you can melee the boss for mana when its possible..

All in all the easiest healing package so far.

I think he is going to lean towards Paladin, I will prob level a new class with him and see how it goes :P

Well since you said he couldn't play druid/shaman/priest without some moving around other raiders....

Monks are extremely fun to play and if he levels as a Monk and does some dungeons, it's not as difficult to learn and is rather quite fun. You said he was a rogue, so he's used to being all up under the bosses ass, it really wouldn't be that difficult to learn to throw heals and dps in between healing. It's the most fun I've had in a very long time as a healer.
You do have a little bit more to keep track of as a Mistweaver, opposed to a pally healer, but you still track your most important spells and cds no matter what healer you are.

Paladins are super easy to heal with, and learning how to heal with a paladin, won't be difficult at all. There are some very well written guides (here on MMO and on other sites) regarding pally healing and has just about everything he will need to know.

Really though, he should just pick whatever class he's interested in the most and give it a try.

I would say that Paladin and Monk are just about equal in the beta in terms of how easy it is to heal. I suppose it will just come down to your own personal preferences. Bright side, Monk is new and interesting.

If he didn't play healer all this years, I doubt he will like it now tbh. Paladins are amazing, but I heard on beta Monks are the one on top. If they ca nthrow some dps to that, they will be better choice for raid spot.

I tried all 5 healing specs in Cata and I must say it comes down to preference. None of them are hard, and it really comes down to who you feel comfortable with. After that its laying out your hotkeys so you know how to react to stuff without looking around for your buttons.

Don't panic too much about what is difficult or easy, the more you play that class the easier it's going to be and it'll become second nature. My recommendation is to start a pally now and then try a monk and see for yourself what you enjoy more.

There are always going to be patches that change who's on top so don't worry about that either.

Mistweavers are more complicated. However I advise that you or your friends don't try to pick between the two, since both classes will be played across the board in the expansion. (Most people play Paladins right now, and people who only do FotM will go Monk, so either way you have no exclusivity whichever class you play.)
