    How to: Secure Your Account

So, some people, mainly in China have been trying to access my account:

Anyone experiencing the same should download Ccleaner, Malwarebytes and/or run your Anti-Virus just to be sure you're not being keylogged.

I've seen a lot of people making threads regarding these emails, and it seems that the guys trying to steal accounts are actually not very "l33t" at what they do, rather they're just using downloadable programs to do gain passwords to unsuspecting account holders.

    Password Cracking
The two common types of password cracking programs, I’ll give a brief description on each and how it works.

Brute-Force Attacks: Runs every possible password until the correct one is found. This type of attack generally requires thousands of processors to simultaneously run against a file with an extremely long and highly encrypted password. Commonly used for sensitive, confidential files. But it's easily downloadable to run against anything (your GW2 account) and then doesn't require much resources.

Dictionary Attacks: It runs every possible word in the dictionary until it finds a match. A password such as ‘Football’ would be almost immediately discovered. These are much more common than Brute-Force attacks when trying to crack user passwords.

How to make yourself a secure password
There are a few easy ways to make a difficult password while trying not to forget it yourself.

Mnemonic Passwords: When you generate a phrase that’s easy to remember, then take the first letter from each word to form your password.

For example: ‘I like to drink wine at the weekends’

    ILTDW@TW

Letter substitution: You can replace letters with numbers, this makes the complexity of your password more difficult to discover.

    For example: The password ‘ChelseaFC’

    ‘Ch3lse4FC#’

ArenaNet's email authentication has saved a lot of people the annoyance of losing their account and probably getting it banned. However I'd imagine most people probably use the same passwords for their email and login. I'd recommend using different passwords for everything.

    Good luck!

Seriously wtf is with everyone making a YouTube video for the simplest of information videos and guides.
Solution posts to problems with whatever on forums now link to various YouTube videos with nasally sounding teenagers that force me to mute the video or close it and go find something typed out. Which of course is becoming like finding a needle in a haystack

The biggest culprit for this is minecraft for sure though.

You need degree, certs to be able to tell people to have better passwords hilarious mate!

The video is 1000 times more informative then your post and therefor i would HIGHLY suggest people to check it out!

Then you should know that most steals are not from having passwords it's from other means like keyloggers, and email phising and such. Brutecracking a password is highly ineffective and not worth the hackers time mate.

You could've backed up your claim with some easy permutation calculation aswell but anyway or with some INTERESTING facts and such. This is a bad post and you should feel bad aswell.

You can also use a keyscrambler like the one at http://www.qfxsoftware.com/ (there is a free version)

It means that anything that keyloggers log is random garbage instead of what you actually typed.

"Companies never give you the full story."

    ALT+F4.

Apart from that, I'd rather quickly read something than wait 8 minutes for someone to tell me something they could've in 2.

no he doesn't, in 99,99% it's not the company's fault.

Szyrex is right. Don't use real words, add numbers and special characters and longer = more secure.
