I like Kalyyn's idea, but I wanna see more ideas with it. Could be fun.

So these guys are pretty nifty. The green Primordial is especially great in multiplayer EDH.

Master Biomancer is crazy considering all the counters you can move around with Simic.

Speaking of, Cimic Manipulator offers some crazy creature control.

I was looking through my old youtube videos and found this little "Heart of the Cards" moment. I think this is the best Magic moment I have ever seen.

If there was a lot of walls I would agree. I can see him being decent in limited, but not much else, unless you are somehow getting at least 5 or 6 counters on him.

This might be my new favorite card in this set.

When the rest of the set is spoiled tomorrow, which, if I remember correctly, this might be the first time in many years that we haven't known less than half the set before it got fully revealed, I am going to think of some new decks. There is an interesting deck I want to test out called USA (R/W/U) Airforce, playing off of cheap flyers and Favorable Winds. I may also try Esper Airforce because of Duskmantle Seer and see how Bob for both players would go. I also want to try and see if an Esper Control deck is possible just to try out Blind Obedience and Soul Ransom. BWR Control may also be a possibility with what may be out there.

I am fully awaiting tomorrow when the full set is spoiled.

    Haaa, love the game.

Currently using a black/white deck (always used black-white or black-red) Not in T2 but it kicks ass greatly.

There was one old creature that I always loved, considering it would take almost any creature it went against Always had fun eating insane creatures with this one "oh that colossus is cute, nice eldrazi bro, say byebye to it" Specially since remove from the game was still a fairly rare thing...

Play since arabian so i guess most of my favourite cards are old :P

Oh god, it's like a basilisk with first strike. That's so worth the upkeep cost.

10 years ago, a 5/5 creature for 4 mana with a drawback was good in standard. Nowadays, a 5/5 creature for 4 mana with a good ability is considered crap by the majority.

10 years ago, a 3-color deck required a really good manabase. 3 years ago we had 5-color control...

10 years ago, a spell that couldn't be countered was "WHOAAA!". Nowadays, there's more spells that can't be countered (check the spoiler), less counters around, and the spells that can't be countered are again mostly considered between mediocre and good, with one or two exceptions of awesome.

10 years ago, destroying all creatures your opponent controlled cost 9 mana. Now it can cost only 5 to 6 and it also does 5 damage to the opponent all in one little package.

We could continue, but what for I think there's plenty of examples of power creep around, and this is only look at "big" cards. The smaller utility cards also have quite a few examples...

... And don't get me started on griselbrand -_-
Yeah it is very true, they changed the formulas for mana or whatnot...

It used to be something akin to 1 att/def = half a mana, 1 passive ability = 1 mana...
    So a 1/1 with flying was 2 mana (1/1 = 1 mana, and ability)
So creatures like raging goblin or Savannah lion were amazing (1/1 haste for 1 mana) (2/1 for 1 mana while its real cost should be 1.5)

It scaled a lot, but then again it is predictable really, to keep adding new stuff they will have to scale sooner or later.

About the 9 to destroy all, that is true sometimes was 7, but still.
You could get around it with other methods though and wrath of god/regen or phase creatures out and blow it all etc.

And holy hell this thread become a huge argue fest and here i thought it was just to show some shinnies that we liked.

You linked something from page 3. We've gone away from that long ago.

Waiting impatiently for the last of gatecrash to be revealed.

I still can't believe we know less than 50% of the set. Normally we get some post on MTGS where someone opened 5 boosters and suddenly know 40 more cards.

So these are the cards I think are good with the big release.

I guess you can use Devour Flesh on yourself. Otherwise, not worth it.

Boros Reckoner is awesome. You can either choose, in a way. Give it first strike, or let it take damage and deal extra. Kind of reminds me of Tephraderm.

Immortal Servitude is awesome. At worst, it's a Zombify. Too bad it's not "x or less", but I guess it'd be too powerful. looking through the cards now.

Haha, imagine Court Street Denizens with Raise the Alarm

Debtor's Pulpit seems overcosted. Five mana to tap a creature each turn, and it locks out your land? Eww. And a rare even.

Holy crap a thrull. Pretty good too, 1/1 with B to regen.

Guardian of the Gateless is like, reverse Rampage. Nice.

Holy Mantle is updated Spirit mantle. Feels too much cost though.

Sage's Row Denizen - holy crap, more milling stuff. Want.

Sapphire Drake - It's like a better version of Soulbond for Simic.

Skygames - worthless. And I mean, beyond worthless.

Baulstrade Spy - Didn't I just say something about mill?

Dying Wish - Awesome, and I'm liking this cycle of cards

Grisy Spectacle - Death plus mill! Seriously, you could throw some Szadek and Circu's in here, and you'd have a killer blue/black mill deck

Mental Vapors - Cipher is starting to sound expensive. I'd rather play Hypnotic Specter.

Shadow Slice - Ok, changed my mind, welcome back cipher

Ember Beast - Holy hell, what an old card to reprint. I used to have these when my beast deck was red/green, before I realized that didn't work (but Aether Charge is awesome)

Crowned Ceratok - Again, Soulbond but better for Simic

Rust Scarab - Ok, no doubt everyone knows where THIS idea came from...

Tower Defense - Ho. Ly. Shit. Ultimate defense for green.

Verdant Haven - Ugh. Wild Growth much better. Not worth two extra mana just to get that two life when it comes into play. Nice to see this effect again though.

Fortress Cyclops - Wow, sounds like Glory of Warfare in creature form

One Thousand Lashes - Pillory of the Sleepless, with one extra mana and prevents activated abilities. I'll take it.

    Paranoid Delusions - Mill!

Bioshift - Holy crap. All these Soulbond-type cards just got even better.

Merfolk of the Depths - Severely overcosted

Riot Gear - Compared to Trust Machete, very meh.

Power level of the set seems to be way below that of RTR. I love Simic and Orzhov flavor though.
Won't be buying a box of this one, just the set of duals, and maybe the equipment for EDH

Two of the guildmages allow for instant combo kills, one in modern and the other in standard... One of the new enchantments is most likely gonna go in the bant enchant deck that has been winning left and right recently in standard tournaments.

Might not be full of bombs, but on the contrary, it's full of utility and decent cards. We'll see how it goes, but most likely it'll turn out well enough.

And don't let me start speaking of legacy and vintage. This set has plenty of tools for eternal formats.

    Cipher works with Dimir Keyrune.

Could make for an interesting combo

  18. #258
This can't be all that good. This was on Maro's tumblr.

doopboopdoop asked: Has wizards ever thought of making rarity more of a gradiant than fixed points? Say not all cards appearing in the same slot appearing at the same frequency?

Not with current printing technology but there are a lot of exciting possibilities in the not so distant future.

So just like +1/+1 counters then.

Pulled an Aurelia at pre-release tonight. And a Domri Rade as well, but nobody cares about him.
