So I have gotten bored of my guardian and I am thinking about making a Charr Mesmer just to be a complete hipster.
How would this fit into the lore? I don't see many Charr being fabulous.

Could be an Ash Legion Charr who wants to use illusion and deception in order to be a stealthy fighter. That's what I'd do if I were to make a Charr mesmer!

Mesmers are "fabulous" by definition, now?
They're magical duelists. As stated above, the Ash Legion seems to be a pretty good fit for a mesmer, although charr aren't typically fond of magic.

I actually see more charr mesmers than norn mesmers. My server is weird I suspect.

Mesmers aren't all about being fabulous - the society at large has just taken it in that direction because of the pink/purple butterfly-filled magic. Mesmers are illusionists. Tricksters. Deceivers.

The only reason i didn't roll a Charr was that i didn't like their animations

I rolled a Char Necro...kinda wishing I had done Engi. They seem to look cool no matter what they are doing. If only I could equip the monocle and the dapper suits shown above. Then it would be living the dream.
I will say Char look awesome with the crazy witchdoctor facepaint going on.
