Im getting a bit tired of it tbh (yes already) my character is fully exotic geared and im not the biggest fan of PvP so Im finding it hard to find the motivation to play at the moment. I really like the game and iv probably put 300 hours in so iv got my money's worth and with no monthly fee im just waiting to see where Anet take the game from here now.

Im starting to wonder if MoP will be worth it now to be honest, I have nothing against Guild Wars 2 and don't for one minute regret buying it but I can't see the long lasting playability in the game (from a pve prospective)

Went much smoother once I found the place those glitchy little puppies should be leading me too. Travel wise I do okay, especially when I'm doing an escort on the way.

Even WvW is getting more "user friendly" now that more enabling of upgrades like waypoints is going on.
I constantly run into broken DEs, particularly stuck escorts. It got far more prevalent in the later levels. Content that isn't working is basically content that doesn't exist in my book. If I can't do it, I can't appreciate a difference. No credit for effort in my class! Also as population drops with age and distribution, DEs have kinda died out, used to be I couldn't walk without spotting one, particularly in the low level areas. Now not so much, I have to switch zones to get enough experience on my alts to move forward.

Travel wise my main problem is Orr. I have to spend more money than I make doing events to move around, because otherwise I have to deal with a trail of zombies slowing me down only to arrive just after a huge zerg of bots and other semi-AFK people finish the event and tab out to do something else while waiting for it to respawn. More power to them, I guess, but not how I want to play the game.

To make this poll representative, it needs 2 times more votes, but, we can slowly starting to assume that at least 1/2 of the max level players are already bored of the game.

I am also bored. Why? I feel like a victim of the "no gear progression, pure fun and look progression!" spam. When I reached rank 10 sPvP I was soo happy to finally get a new gear only to dissapoint myself because I reminded myself that it has the same stats...so even max sPvP rank gear wont reward me. I don't care about the look, I wanna get more powerfull when I spend my time ingame. I wanna be better geared while now I can be max sPvP and still 2 mesmers will rofl-ilusion-spam-stomp me, eh.
GW2 could be my home if there was a gear progression like in Warhammer online.

Does WvW have gear progression in GW2? No Or I am blind.

It does in that it uses your PvE gear. When I hit 80 and bought some green gear, my output did significantly increase. I'm not sure if it's proportional (best gear for level = best power) or level based (favoring 80s with good gear over lower levels even with best gear).

Ok... I just want to say is that it's more accurate to say it "sells more"... not "sells better". The term "better" is relative to the company.

Now, before you all go on saying "What company doesn't want to maximize profits?" I'll go on to say "many"... because, shockingly, for some they know how to balance real-life vs the pursuit for eternal wealth, and know that wealth doesn't have to come in the form of buckets of cash.

For an example of what I'm talking about, watch the documentary "Jiro, Dreams of Sushi".

For a video-game example... I point to Bethesda and the Elder Scrolls series, who takes YEARS to perfect their story and game and publish it THEIR way. Their stories are certainly not simplified - and arguably has just as much complex gameplay, if not more, as most games today.

The reason they can not shoot for the mass markets? Easy... they don't need to. They're perfectly fine with the profit they make right now. Also, their game is already designed in a way to be played fundamentally by twitch-gamers, and yet have a TON of rewarding story and lore for those of us who take their time. They didn't need to REMOVE that stuff or adjust it so that the masses can enjoy it... they just went and shifted a few things around to let players play the game THEY want to play. In effect, every player won.

    You're clearly an American...aren't you? :P

It was as a friend of mine said earlier: "The problem is with gamer's and people in America today is that they have this HORRIBLE Warcraft mentality of constantly UPGRADING and maxing crap out and to compete with their neighbors instead of just having FUN with them... just like buying Cellphones every year... they want the next stat upgrade. That's a problem... what happened to having FUN with what you HAVE!?"

Are you saying you REALLY can't have fun unless you're getting a stat-boost in one way/shape/form? In Grand-Theft Auto III when I was rolling down the street with a tank, exploding cars and causing a massive city-riot with military chasing after me - I wasn't having any fun because I wasn't upgrading my weapons by doing that?

So you want to kill people just because you play more time than him? Go back to wow then, get stomped for 2 months before you even have a chance to fight back just because the other guy is in full pvp gear and you are in leveling greens.
You want to be better? Go find a team, use you own skills and coordination and win because you are a better player than they are, not because you gear has +100 random stats than the other guy.

Uhh... Okay? GO BACK TO WOW!!

Nah... I can completely see where you are coming from. I just haven't gone there yet. Maybe next month, maybe next week, maybe even tomorrow. So far, however, I'm having fun. I was so bored with MMORPG's. I loved early WoW but Blizzard soon took it in directions I didn't like. The longest I've ever lasted with an MMORPG was WAR, but that was mostly due to me actually liking the people making it and the setting more than the gameplay being "better" in any way. My personal best for bailing was STO. It took only three days to go from "neat" to "ugh" with that game.

For me GW2 is refreshingly different from TOR, STO, Rift, TSW, WoW, WAR, AoC, etc, etc, etc... After playing it I find myself actually enjoying an MMORPG again. A hell of a lot more than what TOR quickly turned into for me. So while I don't know what tomorrow will bring. I'm having fun so far and in the end that is what matters to me.

Really, it just sounds like you're burned out on MMORPGs period.
I hope you haven't forgotten my role in this little story. I'm the leading man. You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies.

If you give in to your impulses in this world, the price is that it changes your personality in the real world. The player and character are one and the same.

Its already representative. For a 2 million GW2 population, you only need ~400 people for the survey to be representative with a 5% error margin. 600 for a 99% error margin.

  12. #252
Funny that the broadening of the MMO market has brought a lot of gamers to MMOs that don't really like MMOs. Which is sorta nice for GW2 as it has a lot more actual mass market gaming appeal in gameplay systems than WoW even. Namely the action combat stuff.

I wonder sometimes if a TRPG had somehow gained the cultural cache of WoW if the genre would be divided as the MMO market is currently. Where genre enthusiasts and genre band-wagoners [for lack of a better term] might be shouting across the aisles; "go back to tactics ogre/you banner saga fanboy!"

It just doesn't seem as though a portion of the audience brought to the genre of MMOs circa 2005 had a particularly keen interest in this genre of gaming specifically. Posts like #265s intrigue me on a number of levels.

Maybe just idle thoughts. I am fascinated by this in any case.

Not really because it isn't a truly random sample. Actually I thought it would be more 'yes' than 'no' because of the fan boys that frequent these boards.

2 months to get pvp gear in wow?make it a weekend...and also skill still win battles in wow and in any other MMO...some people got pawned in wow and they thought it was gear fault yea...I wonder now in GW2 what are they doing...do they kill others with their awesome skills ?

Enough of this lies, skill was always a number 1 factor in all MMOs. I have seen many battles where the lower gear players won easily the better geared players..and green leveling gear is non existance now in wow...even if you fart you get rewarded with epics. You need a weekend max in wow to get geared and ready for battle..after that if you think gear is the problem that you lose battles then you need to shatter your illusions like a good mesmer

The trick of selling a FFA-PvP MMO is creating the illusion among gankers that they are respectable fighters while protecting them from respectable fights, as their less skilled half would be massacred and quit instead of “HTFU” as they claim.

Around 2005 was the golden age of MMO's though. WoW just beginning, the grind fest that was FFXI, and EQ on its tail end. I played all three and literally didn't see the sunlight for a week in college. I think its more the people that joined WoW/MMO scene after Vanilla WoW/EQ/ grindy JPMMORPG.. say 08/09/10 that really changed it.

I'd love to find out the dichotomy of players and how they each view MMO's also.

I sure wish they would have spent a little more time on Skyrim on the PC to make it feel like less of a clunky console port. Unless it was their vision to make the PC version UI suck and feel like a console in the first place.

And of course we'll have Elder Scrolls Online next year to do a real comparison with. Odds are it will be the same mass market MMO with the same complaints and issues that other MMO developers have to deal with. So far the early buzz I've heard on ES:O hasn't been that great.

What does that have to do with being an American? That's consumers as a whole who want the latest and greatest and I could use examples of which across the world not just in America. Yes, when I play a game I play to have fun but, I also want to have the best things available and will work hard to obtain it. What you're implying is that the stuff that isn't the best makes things more fun because you always have the choice to upgrade which is your opinion . I play to compete and compete to win, that is what makes the game fun for me who are you to say otherwise. As for the whole cellphone approach to your statement. If there is the latest and greatest and does things that I want to do then of course I will contemplate purchasing it however that doesn't mean i'm going to spend a ton of cash on it. I upgraded my phone from 2008 with an android and only paid 100 dollars and it does everything I need and more. Competition is something found worldwide and is a mindset of many people. Europeans compete, American compete, Asians compete, etc. Does that mean you have to? No. Play the game how you feel it should be played but don't ever say that someone is playing with the wrong intentions because it differs from yours.

There was a post on the official forums asking what other games people played before GW2 and it was interesting to see the variety of games that people came from and even more interesting, only a very small fraction came from WoW.
