What did you like the semi-closed setup? What did you like the Journalists? Was there something you thought was unbalanced?
The semi-closed setup was really fun, wouldn't mind it again
Journalists were good. Kind of like an ME only more suited for closed setups
Kel, you are a boring SK!
I managed to rack up the SK thread to 60 posts with most of it being monologue and pondering, you just state "kill x" with no thought process shown :S
So yeah, if the next game starts on 21, I will join you for sure.
21 people?
21 boats?
21 cheese bearing crackers?
Be specific!
21st you mean
I think setting a game up to start on the 21st is tough. Next "real" game will probably start somewhere between the 5th and 15th of January. If I will do it or if Greeney will be trying out his setup is at this time unclear. During the holidays there might be a game that is limited by real time. The game will end after X days (X = 8?) and the winner will be decided then. Town loses if all scum isn't gone at the end. There'll be something in there to make the scum willing to have speedy nights.
We can call it Mafia 21 Redux: The End of the World.
I really enjoyed the semi closed nature. It makes end game claiming fun. It adds a whole new aspect to the game trying not only to figure out what's going on, but how many people are actually causing havoc. What I would do differently is list the possible roles like so...
Scum (max 8, up to 3 teams)
Mafia (3-8)
Wolves (3-8)
Serial Killer (0-2)
Town Power Role (minimum 2 maximum 5)
Cop (1-2)
Doctor (1)
Jail Keeper (0-1)
Vigilante (0-1)
Mason (0 or 2)
Town Support Role (any # of the following, maximum 4)
Jack
Bomb
PGO
Tracker
Lookout
Journalist (2-3)
Everyone else remaining is a Vanilla Townie with 1 flawed townie. I think next game we should add a different possible flaw. Call it Lurker Rampage. So you either have a random Bloodthirsty townie (kills a random town aligned player), or you have a Sadistic townie who kills whomever is on the bottom of the post count. Granted that may force people to post more fluff (wish we could have a word count, I'd win that >.>). Maybe not post count, maybe random kill on someone who didn't vote (this could also be a suicide where the flawed townie kills him or herself.

I don't think the Lurker Rampage thing would be very good. It would probably mean some players who don't/can't post a lot, regardless of affiliation would get killed off every single game. Plus, part of the fun of the game is to determine if lynching someone is justified based on post count/content, or if the player in question is just always like that and is not actually lurking more than normal. Maybe the random kill thingy, but I think that would be really unbalanced for the town (unless it can target anyone).
I second this sentiment.

Truth be told, I'm trying to come up with something that would affect anyone in the game (instead of a town only flaw). Maybe post count isn't the right way to go about it, I just use it as an example to try and get other ideas. I like the threat of a flawed townie looming over everyone, but not knowing which flaw you have adds to the semi closed setup mystery. I know the intention of adding the flaw was supposed to try and limit the inactivity early on in games, but why not attack the issue straight up. Just because the flaw is there doesn't mean we will always no lynch. I think to date, we've only ever had 2 nights with flawed kills. But that's also why I brought up having the BT kill go on a random who didn't vote. There's a difference between thread lurking and vote lurking. I think if we're going to use BT as a form of punishment for not getting a vote in, then those who caused the lack of a lynch should be the ones who should suffer.
