It's hardly degrading, and tbh I don't think they even mind. Any cougar I have met (I work in a hotel, I meet a shitload of people) generally think it's hilarious and usually introduce themselves as such.
It's the same as "Sugar Daddy" or "Toy Boy" or whatever phrase.

Just because someone doesn't mind being called a 'cougar', doesn't mean all women are pleased with the term.
I personally do not find the term 'cougar' to be appealing. I don't think it's appropriate and it is not on par with a 'sugar daddy'.
When I think of someone being called a 'cougar' it's more making fun of the woman or looking down on her for such choice in partners.

Haven't seen any here, but Oklahoma tends to go from marginally hilly to completely flat, so the rocky areas cougars tend to like aren't really around here.

Coyotes are pretty common in the more open areas. Bears are a common sight if you're wandering around the woods. You can't go five feet without tripping on a raccoon past dusk.

On the 'Cat Cougar' front I live in Australia so they do not exist here

As for 'Older Women Cougar's' .. They are everywhere, I work with Coffee, so I see them all the time coming in for a Drink. I would be lying if I said I don't try to Hit on the odd one here or there. I've even met a couple whilst out on the town having a drink, it's semi-weird when that happens, soon as they try and make some Coffee Related joke I just get the hell out of there, beyond Lame. It's tricky for me, because being 19 a cougar for me could be anything from like ~30+ but 30 year olds aren't really that old, and some are incredibly attractive.
