How similar is Guild Wars 2 to the first game?

If your gona jump game genre in your analogy a better one would have been warcraft 3 to WoW. If you play WC3 you'll recognize characters and places in WoW but the games are night and day different. GW1 compaired to GW2 is about the same. You recognize references to characters and places from GW1 but thats about it. Most of what was carried over was the lore and a few design principles.

I dunno, I just think a jump from An RTS to an mmo is a bit extreme, GW2 is an mmorpg GW1 is an mmorpg, REsident evil 1 is a survival horror resident evil 4 is an action survivor horror thats how I saw it anyway both are completly different from their origins in game play but have some solid lore from originals to keep people involved in it.

Im happy its so different compared to the first one. Wasnt a fan of the first and I am loving the second one.
