Straw Hats

Hey guys. This is my first post. I was wondering on how to get a Straw Hat (the ones that NPCs like Taran Zhu and Chen wear). I was told that Gina Mudclaw(from the tillers) sells them but she doesn't... was there a reputation requirement put in? I don't see anything about this on wowhead.

I am dying to find this for my low level panda too. Any info would be nice, apparently the item is gone in live, and WOWhead has not updated this.
Or the item is not showing up on the vendor for some reason.

Getting straw hats is a part of rewards you get from being exalted with the farm npcs. His name is Old Hillpaw. Once I got to exalted with that npc (was on beta still), I got a cloth version of the straw hat in my mail (I am a paladin so wear plate) and all other versions of the straw hat were buyable from the tillers quatermaster for transmogging.

There are green-quality straw hats as well that are world drops. Had one drop in Mogu'Shan Palace normal today.

Are you Best Friends w Old Hillpaw yet? That may be a prerequisite. I'm online on US live servers and Gina Mudclaw definitely sells 4 different Straw Hats (Cloth, Leather, Mail, Plate).

(I am Best Friends with all 10 Farmers, and Exalted w Tillers)

It is a prerequisite to have Best Friend with Ol' Hillpaw. He sends you a cloth one in the mail (That for some reason cannot be used to transmog with, you have to buy the cloth one from Gina. So just throw the first one away.)

Max rep out with Old Hillpaw. He's west of Che Che up on the hill above Ella's house. Bring Blue Feathers. Lots of them.

it's worth noticing that the hat you receive from mail is not transmogrifiable, but the ones you buy from gina are. so even if you are a clothie, you'll still have to buy a hat.

If your talking about the moggit showing the straw hat as a lv1 item, that is simply because the hat has no item level. Its still the same hat you get from old hillpaw

Yes you have to become Best Friends with Old Hillpaw - I don't think you need exalted with the Tillers at all. So you could fly around the Heartland in Valley of the Four Winds looking for patches of Dark Soil and handing all the items in to Old Hillpaw without ever doing any Tillers quests or anything (but he also has a daily quest to serve him some food and sometimes he's in town in Halfhill and will give you another daily for more "rep").

However you do need to be level 90 to hand in the items (I know because I have an 85 alt I use for farming and her bags are full of the dang things!) and the hats are all BoP - both the cloth one he sends you in the mail and the other armor type ones he unlocks for purchase from Gina. So you can't use them on lowbie alts unfortunately. Pity they aren't BoA (personally I think every vanity or cosmetic item should be BoA... would solve a lot of my main's bag space issues as well).

Dang that sucks. So once you leave (as a pandaren for the first time) you can never acquire mop items? Or do you have to be 85+ to continue questing there? I have visited where the portal should be in storm wind, but if its the same as the goblin starting zone that's unfortunate.
