Soon is my birthday. oct. 30. and i might get stwor (star wars old republic) for pc. ( i no i'm slow) anyway....is there anything i should now about it like softwre or this or that? how would i set it up? Is there a time limit to the game? That kind of stuff.

No, you go to the website and say "I want this!" and then download it.

meaning, you will get a starter version? like world of warcraft were you can level to 20?

1-50 is free to play.

Right now the max level is 50.

Yes.

You should get the entire version for free.

You should get most all leveling content 1-50 (maybe 55 by then) for free.

The only thing people are guessing at this point is what subscribers get that free players don't.

My guess would be:
Limited to 4 character slots (normally 12 now)
F2P people will not get access to bonus areas / quests (you don't really need them but they are a nice extra bonus)
F2P people will be limited in the amount of trades on teh AH they can make
F2P people will also be limited in teh amount of 4 man flashpoints they can run as well as PVP warzones and they cannot run any operations (raids) at all.
F2P people may also be limited in speeder bike purchase speeds, Quick travel points and fleet passes.

(more of everything above should you want it could be purchased most likely. You want to raid? Just buy the raiding pack. Most think it will be something like that)

I'm sure there are others but you will get to level around 4 toons (still a guess) to a pretty high level (probably 50 to be honest) and experience some great story telling (some stories also being better then others.)

well that solves my questuions exept for 1...........how long is the download and how much space does it take? And on a previous thread i had a question why don't they let me sign up because they ythink i already have an account when i don't. any ideas?

My current file is 39.9 gigs, but I believe that includes the PTS client as well. My guessimation is roughly 21 gigs with all of the new patches. The download speed is determined by how good your internet is.

Also about signing up- call their Customer Service and have them figure it out.

This is just wild guessing. The is no official information what the next patch will involve! It can still be month till the game goes free2play. So please stop talking about as if there is a concrete date. The only official hint for the release are things like this: http://www.swtor.com/free/features
