Very. I myself have a god computer and can't even run high, let alone ultra high, but it's incredibly, amazingly smooth on lower settings. Just turn everything down and you'll be good to go. No stutters whatsoever, even when crashing into things or blowing stuff up.

I use mouse and keyboard. If you read the diagram for mouse and keyboard controls in the options, you can get up and running in no time. I suck at joystiq for SC, though I'd probably do better if I had a dedicated HOTAS, though I'm not going to spend money just for that. And besides; I need a keyboard to time, so mind as well just use it anyways.

I have an average computer and I ran it absolutely fine, except a patch broke my install and now it wants to reinstall, but I can't be arsed right now.

If the controls are too touchy, you want to adjust the sensitivity settings. I had the same problems until I turned my global settings down to like 0.08 or something. I forget the name atm as I also haven't played in awhile, but you can toggle the settings for how the ship's computer handles inertia for you to make it harder to black out. Although if you have something quick like a 350R, it's a lot easier to black out of course.

RSI released a deep dive on the Star Marine FPS Update...

No eta though. It will be released when it's ready (originally it was expected to be released in March).

Wait, how do you actually set the game in performance mode? In game it was set to Very High, now I set it to Low, still no improvement, still choppy.

Another thing, how do I complete the Take off thing? Gilly just keeps flying around like a crazed bumblebee and I can't keep up with him.

Are you on a desktop or laptop? The only other thing I can guess is, it's defaulting to integrated graphics and/or you need to update your drivers. While the GTX 750 is only like a $100 card, that shouldn't be choppy on low settings. "It's you, not them." Etc. at this point IMHO

  7. #2147
Yeah, I have a i7 920, GTX 660 with 12 GB of RAM and I have no issues at all playing it at LOW. Still looks very good at LOW as well.

  8. #2148
It may be that 8gb ram is not enough, as well as the GTX 750 being not good enough.. now on Low settings, I can walk around the hangar and feel more or less fine.. the second I sprint, the image starts to freeze. In space is a bit better, if not for the dumbness of flight controls with the mouse, I would have actually completed the tutorial.

But no, I have like 2-3 dots in the middle of my screen, and if you leave your cursor outside of the precise middle, the ship steers off. Even with low sensitivity, it's impossible to keep up with GillyBilly, he circles around me while I try to chase him, and nothing is happening, after it tells me how to roll with D and A, he just flies circles. Forever. And it doesn't stop.

If you've set the game to the lowest possible settings and your still getting stutters like that, then there's really nothing you can but print out your specs, post a bug report on the official forums and say that your getting stutters with those specs.

You could try deleting your user folder; I know alot of people had their games screwed up when a new patch came along because the performance settings had changed and the game pulled from the previous patches' settings.

There is also probably a guide floating around somewhere on the forums for this stuff too.

The GTX 750 is going to be the biggest issue, 8GB of memory is enough, though 16 makes a difference too. But the 128bit memory bus and very low core count of the 750 is going to struggle. The difference between a 750 and 760 is quite large. Combine that with "Very Alpha" and you're gonna have a bad time lol. Might get better results later on down the road.

The i7 920 won't be fast enough soon enough, I have a Haswell i5 4690K clocked at 4.2 Ghz with 16 GB of RAM and an R9 290 and I can barely run it on medium. Yes, it needs an optimization pass, but I can't see the game getting a whole lot better for performance on budget and older rigs with how detailed the game is going to be.

  12. #2152
Yeah, I'm waiting for Skylake and Windows 10 (with DX 12) to come out and then getting a new rig. Good timing since that will be out towards the end of the year.

Nothing wrong with the core i5 there. Although I guess star citizen may finally make use of the hyperthreading on i7s. Upgrading the video card just before release would be a good idea though.

Got it to work decently in space now, doing the combat thing @ tutorial.

I just don't understand the concept behind the controls.. basically if you leave the mouse outside of the middle of the screen, the ship will spin forever, even if you don't touch the mouse. It's worse than flying Assist Off in ED.

Why can't I control the movement of the ship with the mouse, like when I move the mouse, the ship moves in the direction, and that's it. Played 5 minutes then I just left, can't be arsed with having to search for my cursor and place it in the center mid combat, just to fly in a straight line.

If there is a fix to this, please do tell me, as I really want to finish the tutorial

So much potential in this game, the space art ( nebulas stars and shizzle) is so damn inspiring. For a jpg.

There is a way to lock your cursor to the center of the screen. If I remember correctly it was Ctrl+C. I know it was Ctrl + something, so it could be z,X,C,V,B, etc... so try all of the combinations. It might also say it when you look at the keybinds.

The controls are meant to be used to with a flight stick. So when you let go of the stick and it bounces back to center, so does the ships movement. It's a lot harder to find the center with a mouse.
These aren't the spoilers you're looking for.

    Move along.

Press 'Crtl F' or some combination like that (read the in game manual on keybinds) to make the ship's movement stick with the mouse like normal flight sims. That what I use.

It's called 'IFCS' or something, I thinkish. The manual came out a while back.

The IFCS is the independent fire control system.

The game just screams for a joystick setup, I want to get rudder pedals to improve the flight experience but I am so unhappy with the Saitek X55 Rhino setup that I am going to hold off for now.

  18. #2158
Nah, it's Intelligent Flight Control System. A dolled up flight assist.

My respect level for CIG just intensified immensely. Back in January'ish, one of my Org members passed away and on a whim I had asked if there was any way to memorialise him in game. Well, they came through

    https://robertsspaceindustries.com/c...bscriber-Flair

I wasn't expecting anything, since it's one of those touchy things sometimes, but I'd have been impressed had they just named an NPC or something after the dude. But no, CIG goes and builds an entire series of galactic artifacts in his name. This being the first of the collection.

Well played CIG/David Haddock and the entire Writing Team at CIG. Well played.

Very cool of them to do that. It will be interesting to have that in my hangar and knowing the story behind it.
