I've been a backer for a while but haven't tried any of the game yet. I think 2.0 is enough for me to finally sink my teeth in

    EVA'd around stuff.
    Wandered around Olisar.
Crashed into a torus in my Gladius.
QD'd to stuff, blew up some pirates and some nerd.
Landed on the security station, got a gun, shot 2 nerds.
    No crashes.
Sadly had to resort back to 1440p instead of surround.

    A fine evening indeed.

If you think you can skip marketing if you don't have a publisher, that's hilarious. I hope you're not gonna lead any projects any time soon, it'd crash and burn since nobody would know it exists.

This x 100. It's a sad but that's how the world works. Marketing budgets are important or ciao. Unless you get lucky with Social Media.

Star Citizen has one of the smallest marketing campaigns and has over 1 million registered users. Pretty good for a game with almost no marketing.

Eh, because the vlogs and all the other content they punch out isn't for marketing? Sure, they might not be advertising as heavily (I am sure they are punching out thousands on FB ads). The game has raised crazy amounts of funding, word of mouth and news media coverage, not many space sims aka niche.

Just because you don't see major TV spots and what not, does not mean the game has no marketing. The game is also in the Alpha stages, so there is that as well.

Point still stands. Marketing is important in most successful businesses. From experience, I have seen plenty of businesses die due to no marketing or simply lower profit returns because of no marketing at all.

People paint their marketing 'campaigns' differently, but when you are producing videos, giving interviews, etc. It's all marketing. Marketing is not by itself evil, either. Compare it to guns.

The game passed 100$ million earlier today, what with the 100k that was donated.

    - they recon "citizens" = free accounts registered on forums , does not correlate with actual number of backers
    - they recon UEE fleet = all ships purchased in game , on average if we set a 3 ships / person the paying accounts should be around 250k.
    - they showed that they can mess with that $ counter as they please so imo the 100 mil $ is just a media fabricated event , correlated with 2.0 going live, in time for the december sale.

Pushing 2.0 to live in this dire state only shows they are desperate for money. you will say but they have 100 mil $!!!! that's why i think it's a lie , if they were not desperate for money they won't rush so bad stuff to ready to play status, just to show they have something.

P.S. overall the game content in 2.0 is about 1 hour of gameplay (assuming there are no crashes). even if all those ships were free (no $) and game would be free, even than i won't download it and play it, the game is boring, lacks content and also can induce health problems because of the terrible fps and headbobing.

P.S. they started banning their older "pledgers" from the forums for stuff they post on other forums. this SC community seems the most toxic game community i ever saw.

i'm not even bother to comment on this, i just reported this post for personal attack and i'm curious to see what happens

    completely agreeing with this guy:

I have a very hard time believing anyone actually enjoys playing 2.0 as it stands and everyone who claims to be having a blast is just some sort of mental defense mechanism to their dread that they might have wasted their money/lives on this thing.
and to end, something funny but that perfectly encapsulates SC community (bear in mind that SC at this moment has nothing revolutionary in terms of gameplay) :

Next up , you could feed a million starving children for a month in Africa with the 100 million that has been donated to Star Citizen. Or why would someone pay 100 dollars for pants since Aishwarya in India only paid 5 cents for his pants.

I guess the human race isn't allowed to produce anything that costs over 74 million anymore since 'India put a satellite on Mars orbit for 74 million.'

    not that but this :

4 mocap studios and 2000$ coffee tables from hardware restoration (in their last live stream they have 1 table and some chairs that together add to 10,000 $) are essential for game development

It is all marketing in the sense that they are consistently promoting the product, but I see them doing it in order to retain interest in the project while it gets developed rather than selling a product to people who aren't already invested in it. Transparency with crowd funded projects seems to be one of those things that needs to happen because the amount of trust can be an issue and players have been burned before on other projects. You can see their social media marketing as an advertisement campaign, but there is no denying that they are using it to keep interest in the game high so that they have a big testing base to draw from.

Hey genius, I heard its called "alpha testing" for a reason. Of course it has fucking bugs and crashes! Since when was a fucking alpha rest supposed to be bug free? I guess you never played any game with an alpha test before, and all you are probably going on are the tears of a few people who can't explore the entire universe yet.

Just a reminder: In the latest interview Sandi slipped and said they need to attract a larger audience to "take pressure off of the backs uhh uhh gently caress not that we need the money."
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXGsz0ZoduY

So confirmed, they are desperate for $ so they push forward every little crap they have no matter how bugged or empty it is.

BUT BUT BUT the citizens will jump , where are the 100,000,000 $ ?! they should not need more money.

    1st 100,000,000 is a lie, it's less
2nd 4 mocap studios, programming studio on Santa Monica beach, 20 actors for a mocap movie, lavishing life style , etc , etc all that takes from budget without adding anything to the game

And now they deny refunds to people with more money involved despite their ToS and dates clearly tell that they didn't delivered a product 1 year after the estimated release date.

But i heard refunds come fast (1-2 days) if you threat them with a chargeback.

    Please post productively. Infracted. -Edge
