So Squadron 42 delayed until...well, delayed. Haven't we already gone through this at least twice now with this alone?
And it looks like they were denying the delay as of a month ago.
I mean, they're still making progress, but hot damn it feels like we hear about delays about as often as we hear about meaningful progress : /
Yeah, I'm not surprised. The amount of polish that CR wants is pretty annoying for stuff like this, and CIG was in over their heads for quite a while (and likely still are for some things) with all of the things they want in SQ42. But, to be fair, delays is one of the "perks" of not having company like Ubisoft and what not looming over forcing you to release on a certain date, because no company is immune to delays. Even though I'm not in a rush for this game (Legion is holding my attention pretty damn well right now), I am worried about the fallout that this will have, though.

It's also a downside though. Sometimes you need that whip telling you no, you can't do everything you want and you need to cut some shit to keep within budgets/timelines, otherwise you end up in endless development hell adding more and more features and more and more polish for a product that comes out years late, if ever.
Mainly, it doesn't help the optics for the company, which has already faced a lot of scrutiny for their development practices/timelines/budgets. Within a month of reported delays, which they denied, they announce a delay without any timeline. That's not good, at all. Especially given how one of the most common news stories you hear about Star Citizen (personal experience for me, this is absolutely not scientific in any way) are about how X feature/system got delayed.
True. I don't want to see this turn into a Duke Nukem Forever or what Blade and Soul became in the US (not a bad game, but a good example of what happens when you stagnate a release, US/EU specifically in this case).
But the last thing I will add to all of this. ABOUT FUCKING TIME they released an actual project road map.
BTW, any shit posters that stalk these forums, take some notes. THIS is how you have a discussion...

lol CitizenCon 2016, this game is never coming out. they showed nothing
more info
https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen...ut_citizencon/
1+hour delay
No SQ42 preview
No new gameplay (cargo hauling, pirating, or anything that's supposed to be 3.0)
No capital ship gameplay
No new SM or AC gameplay
No new flyable ships (although yes, there is a new variant)
Only 30 minutes of 2-3+ hour presentation was actual gameplay
Yes, the new planetary tech is absolutely amazing -- but that's all we really got. The gameplay we saw was pretty cool, but it was on the shallow end.
we've been clicking distress beacons for a year now
landing on a procedural planet (saw it)
driving on planet (saw it)
shooting people (done it)
or more abruptly told
Derek Smart @dsmart 5h5 hours ago
this WHOLE year, they had $34m and ALL they did was fix bugs, introduce a store (with pants) and one base: GrimHex. That's it. ALL YEAR
and mods please stop infracting me for posting *non* constructive stuff because there is no game yet to talk about , only a cry engine demo and promises.
edit: OMGGGGGGGG, the cultists at reddit are begining to wake up , 1200 upvotes for that thread when usually any negative post is burried immediately with downvotes.

just because nothing was released to live alpha doesn't mean that nothing was done this year....what they've shown so far during their presentations this year has been awesome, and while the presentation this year was lackluster, doesn't mean nothing bad is going down.
and your trolling is showing when you don't even know they stripped the cryengine code and made their own to suit their needs.
please go back in your hole.

stop pretending there is more and they don't show it because of *spoilers*
this is everything they have right now
no 2.6 , no 3.0 , no SQ 42 , nothing. Just milking whales for 750$ concept jpegs having mechanics that are nowhere near even be conceptualized in the game scheme, not to talk about implemented at some degree.
in the pas 12 months they did nothing, only spent people's money on staged demos and mocap sessions.

Keep in mind, none of this is including SQ42 progress, which is being kept hush-hush, or, as the haters like to say "MIA".
So, looks to me like they actually did some work on their game, unlike someone else who spends all of their time making threats to the employees and spewing bile, which seems to be rather contagious I might add.

Here are some of the slides from the presentation.

And regarding what was show at CitCon, what was mainly shown off in the demo was the biomes system, aka "homesteads" (I think that's what they call it) along with their planet editing tools.

At least with the Kotaku article, we know why the SQ42 delays have been happening: Not so much problems with the development itself, but that they were/are being tapped to work on things elsewhere. (Which still tie-in to SQ42 in the long-run, but aren't directly advancing it ala missions or story development)
So they laid out what content/features they want to include in major patches, but where's the timeline? Nothing there indicates when the projects were started, when they're slated to be finished, when testing for them is scheduled to be, how far along they are etc.
I'd assumed by timeline you meant something akin to a milestone timeline where players could loosely keep track of where things were at, pending additional delays.
Powerpoint slides are easy to make.
I see they didn't fixed the CryEngine default sea level and water on helmet anymation when going from under water to above water.
Some water on space helmet:

Reminder that Mr Roberts owes his backers fifty Sq42 missions as part of the initial release of Sq42 as outlined in the pledging (and that a cool five million would cover this, no sweat).
Reminder that he cannot even mock up one mission with over a hundred million, the engine developers and hundreds of staff in year five of the project for people who paid to see it, despite events being blown off all year to focus on it.

They don't let him give out dates anymore, for obvious reasons.

You're so good at ignoring stuff, it's amazing. That's spit from the sand worm. When they opened the console during the cutscene, it broke, and caused the cutscene to replay, and while the first was still playing, the second was happening in the background. So when the sand worm turned at roared at the character, the spit flew onto the camera, which you can see in this screenshot because it was happening at the same time, as the first was panning back. And yes, scripted cutscenes are a real thing. No fancy magic. Just scripted events.

Holy shit, you really are impressively ignorant. Did you really think $5,000,000 from the original funding campaign would cover the game? This just shows that you've never actually looked into anything about this game aside from what is spoon fed to you by your lord and savior, Dr. Not-So-Smart. The original crowdfunding was asked for to help get the game off of the ground so that they could then get funding from investors to finish/release the game. After they passed $21mil is where they officially said that they'd no longer need any investors. So no, $5mil wouldn't have made them a game on it's own.
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/c...-Stretch-Goals
"We are pleased to announce the next set of stretch goals for Star Citizen. When we started to build Star Citizen, the goal was to raise $2 million to prove to investors that there was a market for space sims. What we’ve realized since then is that YOU are responsible for this game and not investors. So we’re going all the way: crowd funding will raise the $21 million needed to produce a AAA space sim. These are the next stretch goals that will take us there—more will be revealed as they are achieved!"
And lastly, that chart is stupid. It's stupid whenever any posts it. This game is a bigger scope than any of them. Regardless, as already stated a thousand times elsewhere, but you're unwilling to take your fingers out of your ears, development takes time. As their pipelines come together, things get made faster, as the planet building tech showed today. And the SQ42 part is wrong. It'd be in alpha right now.

I eagerly await the finished product before purchase. /safetyzone.
This doesn't surprised me since SQ42 and SC are linked on a tech level. Seeing that they are still working on eye stabilization, planet tech, etc. then it's going to push back SQ42. That said, I was a little bummed that they didn't show anything. Last year (I think it was last year), they showed the early tech of the intro sequence where you are flown in, get out of the ship, talk to some people and then get a tour of the ship. It was obviously early in development, but it would have been nice to see an update of that with the new faces, lighting, sound, etc.
That said, the planet tech is quite amazing, and the clip after the demo where they showed how quickly they can start cranking out content of this scale was equally impressive.
