I to waste more and more time developing ships instead of finishing the game. If they put half the dev time into the actuall game as they do releasing wave after wave of 100$ ships it might not still be in alpha.
"OMG, there can't possibly be people hired to do specific jobs!"
Let me know when an artist can work on network code, will ya?
And before you come up with something that you believe to be some witty retort, yes, I know it's no longer an artist and instead a programmer once they're into and past grey-boxing on the ships. But they're still different people than the ones working on game mechanics. And regardless of any of that, how stupid would it be to implement mining into the game without having anything to use the new mechanic? Ship development goes hand-in-hand with mechanics development. Things need to be made to use the mechanics.
(BTW, nice strawman in your response)

It's becoming more and more common for modern games to recommend SSD's simply due to asset streaming and other issues. As file sizes continue to get bigger so will the speed requirements for data transfer for things to load quickly/properly, and SC has plenty of super high-res models and seems to have plenty of super high-res textures that would absolutely put older HDD's through some stress as they struggle (and fail) to keep up.
It says less about the game and more about the evolution of technology, IMO.
Most games run fine, and SC can run "fine" with a standard 7200RPM HDD. But again, if you're wanting to stream UHD 4K assets off a HDD then you're going to be in for a rough time regardless of game, you need a proper SSD or something like those PCIe hard drives to get fast enough data transfers.
And being in alpha is literally an excuse, and a good one. You can argue about how long the alpha has been going on, which is a fair criticism, but given the stage of the game at this point nobody should be expecting an optimized experience. There's still a long way to go before serious optimization work is going to be on their plate, as they still have a ton of work to do on the foundation of the game elsewhere.
You're right though, not everyone can afford a big SSD, but this clearly isn't a game that's ever been remotely targeted at "everyone" or any kind of proper mass-market appeal. Unless I'm misremembering, they've been very clear that the game would require a beefy rig from the get go, and that they had little interest in proper "min-spec" experiences. Which makes this criticism kinda silly IMO, because it's like complaining that the Ferrari you just got isn't ideal for driving through downtown to go to the grocery store...the Ferrari was never designed for that kind of driving, it's an exotic sports car for you to tear shit up in.
Again, alpha. The game isn't supposed to run well in alpha.
And again, we can discuss whether or not the game still being in alpha after this long is a good/bad thing (I think it's bad), but given that this is where the game still is this is perfectly within the realm of reasonable for a game at this point in its development. I.e. a long way to go and a lot of core tech still needing to be implemented.
If part of their "not shooting for min-spec" is essentially requiring a SSD...I don't get the issue? This is a high-spec game that requires beefy rigs, if you're playing this you're likely going to have SSD's to run games off of. Either way, it would be like complaining that a game requires a better GPU/CPU, it's just that HDD's vs. SSD's haven't really been an issue until game started being able to play with proper 4K assets in place and that's putting a strain on older HDD's.
Not trying to be shitty, but your posts read like you're just complaining for the sake of complaining. There's plenty of shit to grumble about and criticize but this seems ludicrously petty and pointless given the bigger issues facing the game like its very long development cycle and the repeatedly missed milestones. Alpha's never run well, I think in all my years I've only played a few that actually delivered something remotely close to the "final product" experience in terms of performance, most were either busy crashing constantly or were running like molasses in wintertime because it's the bloody alpha and the optimization work takes place afterwards for the most part.
Nice jpegs. I would pay $3 for each.
You can pick up a name-brand 250GB SSD for like $75 now, even less if you go with offbrands. Of course it's going to run like dogshit if you're trying to stream 100TB in art assets at 40MB/sec... a standard SSD does like 400MB/sec+ and hell... I just bought a 500GB nvme SSD for $200 and that does almost 4000MB/sec ... or 100x faster read speeds than a standard HDD. Yeah. They're not going to keep up. The game has always shot for very high-end specs, and with release still probably ~2 years away, still using a HDD then will be even more laughable.
Assuming your laptop has a 2.5" form factor, you could even put the SSD in the laptop. That's what I did with my old Intel G2 80gb SSD when I got a SATA3 one. It's only like 200MB/sec but thats still way better than a 5400rpm mechanical HDD. Also, you can make pretty much any drive an external, just have to buy an enclosure.
Eg: They even have M.2 to eSATA/USB enclosures if you want something in an even smaller footprint.

It's more than complaining, it's confirmation bias. Mostly showcased by being intellectually dishonest and simply an ignorant eristic for the sake of atacking things they don't like. It's just funny how desperate some are that they willingly abandon all logic to feel "right".
I mean look at all that "jitter all over the place 24/7" 4k gameplay...
Absolutely unplayable.
Good job joining a conversation that is about the problems that occur through the usage of a HDD by posting a video of some dude with some high-end spec that is having more than just noticable fps drops just from barely walking.
I am sure you are goin to win the argument with this one /s

I call them as I see them. It's not like they have a hidden agenda or they try to smooth their intentions for the past 4 years they have been dissing every thing star citizen related with a coment section because their feelings got hurt somehow along the way. So Star Citizen must be foreverbad for eternity and logic and reasoning don't apply.

I don't get the appeal of this. Flew around a bit and left very unimpressed. This has nothing on E: D with VR. Not even close. And that's super sad, because E: D has no content besides mining (actual mining (as in equipping mining laser, etc) sucks, but you drive around in your SRV and collect rocks, so like mining in wow).
My nickname is "LDEV", not "idev". (both font clarification and ez bait)
yall im smh @ ur simplified english
I guess if you're not a backer and following the project for all these years you might still be easily confounded by what represents constructive criticism from the vitriol and trolling going on by the usual sceptics who know very little from star citizen or game development in general yet voice their opinions like "facts" simply because they don't get it and seem very adamant of not getting it just for the sake of being able to hold on to their hatebone chew-toy for as long as possible.
I'm sure ed has more than mining for content, namely dogfighting, trading and exploring.
Star Citizen 3.2 update will introduce the first iteration of mining gameplay seen bellow.
VR is something the dev's said they want to include but at later stages since core systems of the game are still being developed.
