The game needs to get it's name out more than anything else, currently they have 675k box sales. In order to be considered anything resembling a success the game will need at least another 300k people to buy the basic Aurora package. At 40$ per package that would come out to ~12 million

That's the big thing with Squadron 42 Episode 1. It will be the first non alpha product put out by CIG. If that episode is a success, we'll easily see 1 million backers by the end of next year (if not many more).

The big 15k Package is something I won't ever get but I'm not shocked either. The crowdfunding of a AAA game isn't shocking. Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade is doing this in a similar way as well.

675k custumers before the game is on the market or even in a Beta is a huge sucess for a crowfounding proyect, for any crowdfounding proyect. There are huge companies that would kill just to have half a million.

Heh. Thanks. Tales of Citizens is definitely my favourite SC podcast.

"No! This is not a discussion. I will talk. We will now dictate the audience."
Maybe that's why the show ended!

675k is the number of registered accounts, there are currently around 544,500 ships in the fleet, which is less then one ship per account (I'd estimate the number of ships per account is at a minimum 2:1 ratio on average)

Probably more than that, I have a hornet and a 325 myself.

    PU? What's that?

Which joystick do you guys advise? I was considering the Saitek Pro Flight X-55 Rhino H.O.T.A.S.

Persistent universe. That's what Star Citizen is; a multiplayer, single server realm. The other part is the campaign mode, Squadron 42 (S42).

Well well well; the grunts over at Massively have nominated Star Citizen 3 times as the flop of 2015!

Eh, there is a kernel of truth in their grumpiness: That there is so much hype invested in the game, that there is bound to be disappointment for people when it finally comes out no matter what. Even if it IS a good game. Simply because they expect it to be the 2nd Coming, and of course nothing ever is.

I don't agree with their moaning about the money spent: I think a decent chunk of that cash atm is speculative in the black market, as people continue trying to flip ships.

@ceruleangrey: I try to refrain from predicting flops because I don't want to see any more. The industry has seen enough recent games perform underwhelmingly, struggle to stay afloat, or sunset that I could probably take wide aim with a dart and be moderately accurate. I hereby declare 2015 a no-flop zone. Nothing but good, healthy, successful games for the next year. It's a law now.
    I like this guy.

But honestly there is some truth to what their saying, it won't please every backer when it does come out and that is a fact. Their forums can already be fairly toxic just after a patch and that is really just the tip of the iceberg if the whole thing goes south.

Yeah, that article was such a transparent attempt at click bait. Star Citizen isn't releasing in 2015 so they had to pick a game with "heat" to get some clicks so they added the "& Beyond" for this year (last years award was just for 2014). Basically all their argument was that "SC has made a lot of money, so it will be a big disappointment" without expanding too much on that meme. Rather pathetic from those alleged "journalists". What can you expect though from glorified bloggers?

speaking of which, is there an approximate time in which it will release? I used to be excited about this game but I've pretty much forgotten about it.

No announced date. I'm guessing late 2016 / early 2017. The last update stated that the Persistent Universe Alpha isn't coming out until the end of 2015.

well hopefully they can cut down on the scope creep so it will actually come out.

Full release? Probably 2016/17. We might (but probably won't) get our hands on the very first form of PU alpha in the form of a single system by the end of 2015, bu again, it's unlikely.
