Just as game mechanics allow you to kill defenseless players, so too do the forums for them to post hate comments and name-spitting. They get annoyed you gank them over and over. You get annoyed because they keep posting QQ threads over and over. Deal with it.

TBH, unless you plan on ganking people, PvP servers are pointless. There was never balanced World PvP. It is always about someone ganking a low level, or a faction discrepancy that leads to one-sided domination (like trying a world boss on a server where your faction is a minority). No challenge. Whoever get the numbers (or level) will win, most of the time (like 99% of the time).

My advise to anyone is: play or normal servers. Even if you want to PvP. You will simply avoid a ton of stress.

How is that a counter to the question of "Why do you do this?" Seems people rarely actually get to answering the question. What does it do for you, as an individual, not as Regnar, servant of the Horde, to kill someone 20 levels below you?

I take pleasure in being ganked. Escaping is a game for me and losing just pushes me to fight harder.

I get equal enjoyment in the players not escaping.

Besides, ganking is a break in the monotony of leveling.

In another MMO I'm playing I left 2 of my alts out in a city to test the game out about ganking, and sure enough a maxed geared and leveled toon came in and killed both. When I mentioned it in chat, they were claiming they kill alts for fun. Meanwhile, the only thing they really cared about in whispers (whispers!) was who was my main, as the cowards were more scared of themselves getting their ass kicked.

My toons were 100 levels lower than them and just doing tradeskills. -_-

You don't see at level or near level PvP. It's almost exclusively maxed geared and level toons engaging in this BS, as they're chicken shits at heart (oh, we want you to log in on your main!). BS. I get Kevyne out in all of his PvP gear, and the knaves scurry away like roaches.

I wont pretend I'm some awesome person. It depends on my mood, if I'm pissed cause some dumb class (blood dk) or I was fighting some level 90 one on one (I prefer these honorable evenly matched fights) then I'll kill any red I see for a bit. Its not that I can't beat someone my level, its just that I can't stand your little red name at the time.
I commonly sit out of fights if I see two level 90's duking it out. I'd rather the other person win so they can heal up and fight me.
and if I'm just flying around non-pissed off, I'll /wave and if you dont respond I point and poke you and /wave again... if your not gunna be polite after that then I kill your ass.
have you tried /waving and /bowing to these gankers of yours?

Because if you're flagged (pvp server or otherwise) you're gonna die. Lots of the low levels I kill are usually alts of people from the other faction.

Now just because I'll dismount and kill a level 50 once in a while doesn't mean I hunt for lowbies to kill.

Those who can... play other games that actually have competitive, interesting pvp.
Those who can't... stay here and gank.

You're wrong there, back in the days (Vanila and TBC), 2 lvl40+ could kill a lvl60/70, better times to defend against gankers.

    What if you do both?

I don't camp people in WoW, but if they're in my path and on the opposing faction? You bet they're getting killed. Doesn't say anything about my skill level.

During the leveling, it didn't seem to happen that much, but I guess when people get bored, they look for things to do. I personally dont want to spend the energy ganking lowbies. Plenty of other things that are more fun imo.

Gear scaling just shot up immensely in WotLK and continued on for whatever reasons.

Usually the only time I kill a flagged lowbie is when I /wave or some other emote and they don't respond to the greeting.

In general I didn't gank other people when I played on a PVP server but there were times when I just had to. For example the boat that goes from booty bay to ratchet. Was leveling an alt and some alliance priest always mind controlled. So I logged to my main and killed every alliance player that tried to use the boat for hours. Very quickly some other people helped me and no alliance player could use that boat. Another place was the hunter camp in the northern part where when I was ganked I would do the same thing and some people also escorted low level horde characters so that they could still level while every alliance player was killed on sight.

In classic it was fun because there were always some high level characters somewhere near to help you out and it really felt like a war. But with BC a lot of people camped the dark portal so that you couldn't enter the new content. Everybody was in the BC zones so nobody came to help you and that was the point when I rerolled on a PVE server.

In the past someone ganked you, you logged in on your main or wrote in chat that there are people who are ganking you and soon you had a big fight with lots of players of both factions which was fun. Today when someone ganks you, nobody will come to help you because no high level character will hear you because they are in a different zone or other players are also a lot level lowers than the aggressor that they can't help you either. So your only options are log in with your main and kill and corpse camp the other player or play another character or other game.

There are two types of low-level gankers:

    1. Ganks and goes about their business (probably the vast majority)
    or
    2. Goes to low level zones specifically with the purpose of ganking lowbies. Corpse camps too.

I've met the second type of ganker several times playing WoW. They probably find it fun and have maturity issues -- I would not be surprised if they were teens.
