Could someone please explain me the basics of Simcraft? Im thinking of starting raiding seriously, but every guide says that i should use it, but i don't have a clue on how.

I'm going to make a video this weekend showing how to use AskMrRobot and Simcraft to a) optimise your gear and b) make upgrade decisions.

I'll post a link on here when I do.

Trying to keep it in layman's terms:
You know all those gritty mechanics that underline the game beneath the actual graphics? Like how spells get extra damage from your stats, what spells you press, etc.

Simcraft runs through a specified combat condition (time of battle, fight type, rotation priorities, selected gear and talents) and calculates it exactly like the game would (*as close as possible based on the knowledge of the theorycrafting community) and displays the result as text instead of graphics. And then runs it another 10000 (or as many as you set) times to smooth out effects of inherent randomness and gives you average results.

That allows you to see your theoretical output and gauge the effectiveness of certain stats and talents by redoing the same test while changing them around without the actual need of doing it in-game.

As for actual usage instructions - there are quite a few in the client itself, just download it, import your character from the armory and start testing.

    Old Sim guide

This little extract is from Endus' Cataclysm ele guide that he wrote up for people in your position. I'm not sure how relevant some of the information is or whether things have changed much but if anything it should provide a starter point for you.

Acording to Simcraft atm, Int > SP = Spi = Hit > Mastery = Crit > Haste
is my stat priority atm?! Cant be right?

  9. #9
I's definitely possible that with your current gear those are your actual stat weights.

Well, first, I'd make sure that you are simming yourself with the proper neck on, rather than your "Port to Black Temple" one.

Edit: Also, make sure that gets you to or just over the hit cap.

Just did a couple quick sims (10k iterations each). Stat priorities (weights): Int (3.33) >> Mastery (1.18) > Crit (1.12) > Haste (0.98)
Removing the reforges only on gear that you have reforged mastery to haste, the stat weights were: Int (3.36) >> Mastery (1.18) = Crit (1.16) = Haste (1.16)
The differences in average DPS between the sims were miniscule (81095 vs 81053, less than 0.1% and well within the margin of error).

With the knowledge that our stats scale well together, these results mean that your stat balance on your gear is solid. What is probably of greater interest is the ideal average dps and figuring out what you need to do to tighten up your execution and bring up your actual numbers.
