Hello my glorious paladins

I'm raidleading in a very casual guild but we are trying to do some 25 man hc progress after we recently cleared normal. We do however have some people who are not performing to their fullest which is why I'm here. I play a warlock my self and unfornutately i have no idea about retribution and what to do. I know paladins are kind of weak atm, but I think he could do some more dps based on his gear.

A quick breeze through of his armory and WoL shows that he is rarely using his Synapse Strings from his Engineering, is not using ES on CD, not using CDs as they come up (eg Your 4kings kill was 8:30 long and he had 3 uses of AW, could have easily squeezed another in - he managed to with HA). He's not pre-potting or using another during fight - not sure if this is a requirement in your guild, but it is a considerable boost to DPS.

His Inq up time is fine, seems like he just needs to make a macro for both String + ES, remember he has cooldowns and just do better in general (he for some reason had sticky resin during P3 of your Shek'zeer kill, which was a factor in his death)

So should I try to get it where my haste is equal to exactly .5 my str?

Yes, basically for a really point-to-point min-maxing optimization. I doubt you would really see a difference though. I'd sticck with full haste if by keeping full haste you gain an additional HoW at the end of AW, if not, then go Str as much as you see fit (to the 1str=2haste or below, depending on numbers of HoW you get during AW).

Rotation: INQ3 > TVDP > TV5 > Exo > CS > Judgement. Pop GoAK at start of the fight once INQ is used, use AW after 20 Stacks of GoAK obtained (generally 10 seconds). Running Divine Purpose until I get my 4 Piece and then I will run Sanctified Wrath.

Just looking for some tips on my gameplay and how I can push for some more Dps, as eventually I'd love to become a ranking player. Epeenbot is giving me around the 50-60th percentile for every fight and I really want to push that up higher. Not sure if it is just gear, but I thought I'd post here to see if I'm doing anything wrong and what tips you guys can give me about my gameplay. Thank you.

I'm on my phone, so I'm not going too in depth with these logs, only really looking at wind lord, but comparing yours to one of mine(heroic vs normal, but it's not a huge difference) some things I'm noticing are that my Execution Sentence damage is 2x yours, and I get nearly as many ticks as you, but my parse is ~1:30 shorter. Obviously gear comes into play here, however we have similar uptime. 15.2% vs 16.9%. This might be because of which targets you choose to use ES on during the course of a fight. Obviously using it on wind lord when he has the damage buff will be exponentially higher damage. Timing these to match that is fairly important. If you can swap to engineering, its the best profession for Ret. Synapse springs with every ES, and every wings is huge damage. As for your spec/glyphs, 4 piece with SW is a huge dps gain, so that's most likely where you're losing most of your damage. Having 1:55 wings is absolutely insane. I would swap out your blinding light glyph for glyph of double jeporady, because with swapping targets it becomes a fair amount of dps. As for pushing your damage to the max(for wind lord at least) try using more HoTR and DS than you have been. It depends on your raid leader/strat for the fight however. If you're burning one add type at a time, multi dot all of them with censure, and keep it rolling the whole fight. It does a surprisingly large amount of damage. Other than that, inquisition up time looks good!

Ok so here is a short log of a PuG raid I attended for the Elegon boss. I only logged two attempts, as I was invited as one of those extras near the end of their raid so they all left after the second attempt.

Currently what I do on pull is pre-pot Mogu Power, when i get to the boss (using 70% increased run speed talent), I instantly pop Guardian of Ancient Kings. I wait 10 seconds before I pop my macro that has all my cool downs (to allow my % strength to stack up as close to max as possible (20%)).

Cooldowns Include:

- Avenging Wrath (Wings - 20% Damage increase for 20 seconds)
- Lessons of the Dark Master (463 Trinket - 4232 Strength for 20 seconds)
- Lifeblood (Herbalism Perk - 2880 Haste for 20 seconds)
- Holy Avenger (Abilities that generate holy power deal 30% increased damage and 3 charges of holy power for 18 seconds)
- Dancing Steel (Weapon Enchant - 1650 Strength for 10 seconds)
- Poised to strike (Trinket Proc - 3386 Critical rating for 30 seconds)

I understand some of these are random procs, but they usually go off early in the fight when ive poped everything. By the time the group is ready to pop lust, usually everything is back up.

What else should I be doing to maximize dps? I have played the Pally class for several years, and im just getting back into playing it again.

You didn't reforge Lessons exp -> haste, you should do it.
Try to get darkmoon card asap, must be cheap by now. use it to replace Carbuncle.
Finish upgrading your weapon.
Enchant 180STR on bracers, you have good ones.

Do not delay HA+lessons to wait for AW, use them asap (besides, poised strike ICD is close to 2min, so, should overlap with it each time), you lost a full use of them due to delaying them. Use it to nuke the boss during focus (and the spark), if you do not reset stacks doing so, cast Sacred Shield + Divine Protection (NOT glyphed) to reduce damage (before your burst since you take damage from killing sparks, and they will die shortly after the strat of your CDs, this way you don't loose GCDs during CDs).
Try to cast Execution Sentence at the last 2sec of AW/Lessons for a full benefit since it benefits from buffs on cast only (of both the Lessons and AW), and on cooldown, even if burst CDs aren't UP. 3 uses out of 5 possible (4 due to delaying the first) is still a loss.
You should pop Guardian along with the prepot and position yourself behind the boss before the pull if you have a countdown.

Inquisition uptime is good.
That's it as far as I can see. It's late for me here so can't really go into details for your priority action list.

I dont have any Logs but i will say my dps is really low to be the topped geared at 490 in vaults ( crawdaddy of the server khadgar US)
those tier pants i just got i can put my old pants back on Legguards of the Unscathed since i already have my 4 piece and i would get about 800 more haste my top 3 damages seem to be censure hand of light and melee i always seem to hit TV at 5 unless nothing to click then i do it on 3 and i get 3 hp on inq before i pop wings and kings im looking for some feedback
with ClC Ret i use this rotation inq howaw tvaw tvdp tv5 inqes how exo jhow cs j ss and the SS i dont always hit of course add toxin.hf on skype i really think i need a Raid Pov from a ret pally cant find one like a stream or a video

You have 4p and use SW which is good, so normally, HoW should be in you top 3 damage source, if not the first.

As the raid leader I feel obliged to find the cause of why one of my players, a retadin, is under performing so much compared to the rest of our raid.

With my own limited knowledge of retadins the only thing I could find in logs is that he needs to keep Inquisition up more often, though even on fights where he did had it on for a good amount he still did quite low DPS. So I am trying to figure out what else it is that he might be doing wrong, it can't all be because of his bad luck on a weapon drop can it?

SPOILER - I AM SPEAKING OUT OF MY ASS (I haven't played ret since WotLK nor a pala for quite a while and we do NOT have a ret in our raid).

His censure damage looks a bit too high... shouldn't TV/HoL/something else do more damage? Most of his damage from what I can see comes for the DoT so... he isn't using spells on CD probably or he has wrong gemming/reforging.

But there;s a high chance that I'm wrong and that gear makes stuff do more damage so it scales differently.



Holy shit I didn't think this is a thread on page 9 D: I have no business here! (Was aimed at .Nensec) - also the worst ranked Rpala on vizier 36TV compared to your ret and on Feng it's 36 vs 21 (21 is your pala). So I guess SPAM MORE BUTTANZ!

A lot of what ichi said is true. Just comparing Elegon logs(just what I have available ATM), your ret had ~10-15 LESS TVs than me, and my kill log is 2 minutes shorter. Obviously gear/haste is a factor though. It looks like he/she missed an entire Avenging Wrath, and a few trinket uses, not to mention only 5 execution sentences in a 9 minute fight. Inquisition uptime is pretty abysmal. Your ret has ~77% uptime, should be 90%+. Other than that, 4 piece for ret is a huge dps boost, and the more haste the better.

EDIT: also, they're ~1.2% below hit cap, but I assume that's just from recent upgrades.

Hi, I don't feel like i`m really getting the most out of the gear I have at the moment, and honestly I am not 100% sure on a couple of things.

My main questions are based around the use of CS vs J, I've been toying with it, first going with J>CS then back to CS>J.

I was going for J first then cd as it hits harder (theoretically thinking more Judgments = more dps), then I ran into a few dead GCD'S, so went back to CS>J, which is smoother with less dead spots.

The second question is about trinkets/cd's(assuming patch werk fight) using SW is it worth delaying my second set to line up with my trinkets (45sec ICD's so id probably have to hold SW back around 15-20 seconds depending on first time trinket procs)?

Also do you top end guys tend to hold back with dancing steel proc's and such, atm I tend to fire CD's off as they come up (again 100% uptime fights, i do hold them back if I wont be able to hit boss for instance)

I just need a subjective view on things I can tidy up on really.

P.s tanking ring due to my other ring being 496 hit/crit ring, taking me to around 8.5% hit

I may take a look at your logs later, but I'll answer the questions you've asked. Regarding CS vs Jugment, CS is to be used first because of lower CD, more CS, more HP, more TV, BUT during wings, Jugment is to be used over CS, because it hits harder, and you have enough HP generation with wings up. As for holding wings, generally it isn't worth it, because you'll lose an entire wings holding them for too long. If you're only waiting 15-20 seconds, you should still get the benefits for some of the duration of your wings if you're using SW. As for dancing steel procs, I don't really pay much attention to them, other than at the pull. I do have a weak aura to track it and my trinket procs, and it gives me a big alert when all 3 are up.
