    MMO-Champion News App

It is finally in the Windows Store! Version 1.3.5 is published.

Please let me know if you have any issues. Email me at ArcticCoder@outlook.com.

I am currently trying to work with the image engine so that it works 100% of the time on first launch while also reducing app launch times.

    Update 1.1.5.3
    :
    • Vastly improves the snapped state article readability.
    • Now properly shows an additional thumbnail row at higher resolutions in the "Filled" state.
    • Changes the thumbnail image engine to only pick wide (700px+) images for the thumbnails.

    Update 1.2.1.3:
Various improvements and adds a Refresh button, which is located in the app bar along with the theme switcher.

    Update 1.3.5 [Live]:

    1. Added an Extended Splash Screen [ESS] with status messages and a progress ring.
    2. Added a secondary image engine that now scans all <a href> links for higher resolution images to use at thumbnails in case <img> pass-through fails to find a valid image.
    3. Articles now re-organize themselves on resize events such as state or orientation changes.
    4. Optimized view states for 1366x768 devices such as the Microsoft Surface.
    5. Made many file modifications for easier future theme editing.

Looks cool, if it gets released you can count me as one of your will-be users when I eventually jump onto Win8.

Glad to know there is interest. The question on legality still needs to be answered though.

I'll definitely use it if/when it gets developed. As for your second question, I'm not too sure but I guess you could ask boub/sunshine about it.

I'll see if we really need to approve shit, but as long as it's just a personal project/you're not making money off it, it just benefits the community and we don't have a lot of reasons to go against it

Looks nice, if you need help fetching the data or something else, let me know

So much win. Now I don't have to load a massive site on my phone, it would be nice to have a forum version and maybe add small pictures to news posts before tapping.

    Major Success!

Vastly improved the image finder for thumbnail generation! Now has a 100% success rate of finding an applying the image to the thumbnail.

    Updated Video.

Updated original post video to alpha build 0.4.1.

Currently waiting on some feedback for how to modify the dynamic XML feed for the video tags; have run into a hard wall.

MMO-Champion News Feed is now in the Windows Store!

App passed certification and is now published to the Windows Store!

NOTE to users: current version has some trouble with the image engine on some machines finding valid thumbnail images the first time you run it. Close the app, then reload fixes the problem.

There are many feature and quality of life improvements in version 1.1.5.3, which is currently being certified by Microsoft. You should hopefully see an update available on the Windows Store in the next few days.

I am currently trying to work with the image engine so that it works 100% of the time on first launch while also reducing app launch times.

    Version 1.2.1.3.

Version 1.2.1.3. will hopefully be live soon. There are a bunch of changes you can find documented in the Windows Store.

I have a single 1-star negative review in the Windows Store by a user that is saying it will not run on his ARM based device. If you have an ARM device, please let me know if the app is or is not working as intended. Email me at ArcticCoder@outlook.com.

I was assured by the Microsoft dev team that as long as my code only used Javascript/HTML/CSS, it would definitely run on any ARM Windows RT device without any need for special compiling. This review seems to indicate otherwise.

Unfortunately, I do not have $500 to drop on a Windows RT surface to test/debug. Doing all of this pro-bono and because it has been a fun project.

Update: The latest version helped the person in question on his Microsoft Surface. So far I have a 5 for 5 star rating
The last step is I want to introduce a splash screen to make the app feel more fluid.

Any plans for an iPad version to get this in the hands of more people, not many people I know own Windows 8 or even a surface. It's ok to view the site on the iPad but on phones using iOS/Android it can be a pain to load up.

Plans are to complete version 1.3. while trying to minimize app bugs. There have been some complications with the WinJS API. If there is a way to easily port the code, which is written in Javascript/HTML/CSS, to iOS/Android I will consider it.

Due to local demand, I am trying get the Windows Store app solidified and into a fully fluid state before I investigate other platforms. I am doing all of this pro-bono as I job hunt/return to school for a second engineering degree, so my time is limited.

In other news: I need a couple of app beta testers to give feedback and report bugs for version 1.3.
Found a couple volunteers. Thanks everyone for the support!

"BC was a hot chick that took alot of work but was rewarding in the end, Cata is the drunk chick that supplied similar results with less effort." -couldnt have said it better.
