It is better in pretty much every aspect with the only exception of the community. Because there were no LFD and LFR features, you had to organzie all on your realm. You can of course still do this - but why? There are other, faster options available.
I also have some old screenshots, but not on this PC. I'll upload some if I find them (Cavers of Time during end of classic - woho!)
This guy was fucking HC, Thori'dal with >2.2k +healing!
After playing MoP for about a month (yeah I know, I'm late to the show) the numbers are one of the things that don't set quite right with me. I'm not saying I hate them, but it just feels awkward. I know we're supposed to be these great badass heroes... but its just unreal.
"Do not only practice your art, but force yourself into its secrets, for it and knowledge can raise men to the divine." -- Ludwig Van Beethoven
The saddest part to all these screenshots, if the fact that most of them have CTMOD Raid Assist. Good old CTMOD (ctmod.net)... it was pretty much mandatory back in Vanilla and into BC. God forbid you entered a raid and someone detected you weren't running it. They would boot you on the spot. It did all sorts of things in terms of reporting for the raid leader.
CTMOD was MUCH more useful then the old raid interface blizzard had.

Neck: that's actually the shattered sun offensive neck. Shattered_Sun_Pendant_of_Resolve
back: Devilshark Cape (judging from the dodge)
weapon: Quickening Blade of the Prince, it isnt millenium blade because he has 0 resi. and millenium blade although the same icon has resi on it.
shield: Dawnforged Defender, shattered sun offensive item (exalted) probably at the same time as picking up the neck.
The sword icon looks like Quickening Blade of the Prince from Heroic Magisters Terrace. Cloak looks like Devilshark from Heroic Steamvaults. Neck and shield I think are Rep with Isle of Money.
Hmm, I guess I had this page loaded longer than I thought, bit slow to the party.
I remember a time around the Vanilla/BC era when I mentioned to my brother how nice people on the game were. He was introducing me and I was surprised that people were willingly helping each other whenever they could. It was truly the greatest days of World of Warcraft whether it was the raids, the dungeons, or the community.
Achievments caused the rift in sociality. I seen it first hand. soon as people had a way to place other peoples pve/pvp feats, human nature took over.
I'm a little bummed, going through all my screen shot folders it looks like at some point I lost all my screen shots from classic and BC, unless I had specifically renamed/uploaded them elsewhere. I have many my raiding first kill shots, but I lost a bunch of others, like unmasking Lady Prestor in Stormwind for my Onxyia attunment, or my first visit to a raid (Zul Gurub) and other memories.
It's silly that makes me sad, but it does.
Here's my edited collection from Vanilla. I need to sort out TBC and onwards sometime and add them.

Generally, I think times were different then, there were a large number of people who had never played an MMO before so there was a lot more situations where helping out was normal. Dungeons had to be formed in trade chat, but just like now they could still fall apart easily. I remember before BGs even had a battlemaster in the city... you literally had to travel out to WSG or AB to take part in them!
I invested the most amount of my time during Vanilla and had the most success - for me I still couldn't choose a best time - it's evolved and stayed compatible with my life so I have no real complaints.
you are entitled to you opinin but i simply dont agree with it.
graphically i think the game looks better, and the whole ui as a whole is definately better but for me there was no more enjoyable time in WoW than there was a few months prior to BC launch and a few months prior to WOTLK launch.
granted i havent played MoP yet but i will be really surprised if i ever get around to playing it, it will be as enjoyable as vanilla/bc was. its all a matter of opinion
